HELP! oil burning question
ok my car is a 1999 civic dx (d16y7) and it burns oil when i use 5w30 full synthetic. I have ALWAYS been using synthetic oil and ONLY FULL SYNTHETIC oil. I have less than 60k on the engine, but i noticed when i use 10w30 full synthetic oil it smokes as if it burns oil but it doesn't when i check the oil dip stick. Just curious why or what causes it to burn. Here is what i've done to the motor: 1999 ex vtec head on my dx block, and ex 5spd tranny. Short ram intake, factory EX header, and A'pexi N1 exhaust. I almost forgot to mentioned, b4 the mini-me swap i had a bent valve/ dead cylinder #3, so i decided to replace it with another head w/out bent valves and i happened to pick up a vtec head. so therefore it was burning oil b4 just b/c of the bent valve on the DX nonvtec head. My plans are to boost on my sohc, but don't know if it's safe to do so. well any feedback is appreciated.

Re: HELP! oil burning question (ek9 ferio)
The way i understand it most vtec motors use oil i have a b16a2 in my 97hx and it burns oil. as for the smoke depending on the color to what it is from with the apex ex. and all most hondas run rich with any performance mod. and it shows when you get on it. Black smoke. a friend of mine has a brand new s2k with the amuse ex. and his car puffs black smoke when he hits vtec

Re: HELP! oil burning question (piggypen)
True that b/c when i race my friends 94 ex stock coupe, he says i burn smoke like his previouse 2000 si turbocharged. It smokes like a light gray/black smoke. And i agree w/ u about the burning rich situation, b/c my car burns rich, u can smell the gasoline, i guess it's b/c i have no catalytic converter. BTW do u know how to tone down the rich burning fuel??/

This sounds kinda crazy but it turned out to be a bad IACV!!! b/c when i did the mini~me swap, the intake mani was missing a IACV, so a shop i always go to found me one and this was like 1yr ago, n about 2hrs ago i changed it, and now everything runs great, better idling and no clogged IACV w/ carbon build up, and no more smoke.
