Default Help me identify the trim level of the 2000 model civic

The owner is selling it, all badges have been removed, he said that it is an Si model but it's an automatic.

Here is what I know...
Body Color mirrors
cruise
spoiler
abs
sunroof
hub caps (may or may not have been OEM cause it was to replace ghetto wheels)
4 lug

He is selling it for a steal but I'm not sure if it is an EX or LX and he does not know cause he bought it from a kid who stripped the badges and sold it to him saying it was an Si model.

Thanks for the help and sorry for the noob question.

theres no automatic 00' si's so i'd call BuLL$hiT...

also on the VIN look for EM1 in the VIN# that lets u know if its an SI or its brother the EJ6-8 which is 96-00 civic ex's....

The LX only came in a 4 door model, and the Si only came in a 2 door model (coupe) in '99/'00.

If it doesn't have 4 doors, it can't be an LX.

If it has 2 doors, it can still be an EX or Si.

Now look at the engine. If it's a big black valve cover that says "DOHC VTEC" with a Honda emblem at the bottom, that's the B16A2, it's an Si.

If it has a steel valve cover and is thin, it's a D16.

It also tells you the motor on the motor, if you look to the left of the block (when standing in front of the car) and down towards the transmission you'll see a little rectangular extrusion with the engine code stamped in it.

B16A2 = Si
D16Y8 = EX
D16Y7 = LX/DX/CX
D16Y5 = HX

Si motor:

EX motor:

As you can see there is a considerable difference in appearance between the DOHC and SOHC motors. The block code will tell you for sure.

Also, the VIN will tell you.

The 4th, 5th, and 6th numbers of the VIN are the chassis code, the VIN is located on the dash, and is readable through the windshield on the bottom right corner (when looking at it from the front).

If the 4th, 5th, and 6th numbers are EJ8, it's an EX, if they're EM1, it's an Si, if it's EJ6 it's most likely an LX, but I think it can also be a DX.

Nope.

Between yours and my post the OP should have all the info he needs to determine it.

But no, that's not good enough, you'll have idiots flowing right through here telling him to check interior codes and paint codes and **** .

It is a coupe.
Like I stated in the first post I know its not an Si model. The kid that sold it to the current owner told him that. I was just wondering what trim level it was for peice of mind.

It's a single cam for sure, next time I see it i'll get him to pop the hood to check the engine.

let me get the vin and see what I can tell by that.

Pop the hood and check the VIN, as Honda engines are very swappable.

char.s 4, 5, and 6 in the VIN:
EJ8 = EX
EJ6 = DX

Engine:
D16Y8 = EX
D16Y7 = DX

I could tell you from the first post that it's an EX ABS. If it is indeed an Si, then it's a Canadian model.

Only bodies with moonroofs in the US are the 2DR EX, 2DR Si and the 4DR EX. Only bodies with color matched mirrors are the 2DR EX, 2DR Si, 4DR EX and I believe at least some 4DR VP models also. Cruise control only comes on the 2DR EX, 2DR Si, 4DR EX, 4DR GX and 4DR LX. The spoiler is an option for all '96-'00 Civics. ABS only came available on the 2DR EX (ABS), 4DR EX and 4DR LX. All US Civics come with 4 lug and all US Civics besides the Si and HX come with stock alloys, all of the other trims having optional alloys.

No need to even check the engine to be sure of the trim level (unless it's been swapped). If it's a coupe and has ABS, it's a US EX ABS or Canadian Si. This means the engine is a D16Y8, 1.6L SOHC VTEC.

And idiots telling him to check the engine and VIN. If it has ABS and it's a coupe, it's NOT an Si. The Si did not come with ABS. Everything in this description points to a US EX or an Canadian Si model. There is absolutely nothing out of the ordinary for it to be either of those models, which are both EJ8s and both have the D16Y8.

Aside from that, you should always check the VIN and engine of a car before you purchase it. The VIN the OP later posted also points to it being an EX coupe (aka Si in Canada). EJ8_4 = 2DR model with SOHC VTEC.

NOFX in right on the money

An American EX in Canada is called an Si
The American Si in Canada is called an SiR.

Could still be a Candian Si, so the original owner may not have been lieing about what model it is.

The car now has 76K miles on it so it's been working just fine for some time now.

anyone think $4,500 is a good price for this car? I think its a great price.

wish I had pictures to show everyone.

Well, i got my 99' EJ8 for 5k, and 146,576 miles on it. But mine was also in "prestine' condition. The interior is flawless, a/c worked great, maintence was amazing (owner kept records), no scratches in paint, ect.. And i think i got a awesome deal on it.
