Default HELP! with JDM D15B / Chipped P06 / Crome

Hey guys I have a JDM D15B in my del sol. It is running great with no CEL using a virgin P28. But as you know the P28 runs the D15B a little on the rich side, in my case i get only 20 mpg and some smoke from running rich.

I got a P06 ecu that is chipped and socketed.

I have a Moates Chip burner and some 27SF512 that I use.

I have Crome version 1.5

I have found and loaded the basemap from the P08, which is the d15b basemap.

I have loaded it up and its getting the CELL 22 and no VTEC.

I know the VTEC is wired up and working because it was working fine with the virgin P28.

I have messed with the settings in CROME like disabling the VTEC coolant Temp Check, and under plugins > Enhancements > VTS + VTP removal

I also disabled the knock sensor, ELD, Stmospheric pressure sensor, injector test circuit.

I left the following unchecked

- Disable oxygen sensor (open loop)
-Disable oxygen sensor heater (because i have a 4 wire o2 sensor)
- Disable vtec speed check

messing around with it it either drives fine, with cel code 22 and no vtec, or some weird 10 or 20 where it just bogs and power cuts off atat like 5 mph.

please any clues or tips

Did you add the actual vtec circuitry to the P06? Theres more to it than just chipping it with crome, you have to actually solder stuff to the board too. Sounds to me like the ECU is chipped fine and its not seeing the vtec components on the board that it expects and throws a cel.

Its got the vtec circuitry. It came from my girlfriends B16 Ek hatch, and her vtec kicks in perfect.

Wait, let me get this straight. Stock P28 vtec works fine. Chipped and converted P06 doesn't work, but the same P06 works fine in another car? Thats wacked.

Once the P06 is converted to vtec status and chipped with crome it should be functionally equivalent to a P28. Both will look for a vtec pressure switch, but if you tap the vtec pressure switch wiring into the vtec solenoid wiring it should fool the ECU into believing you have the a functioning VTPS

I spliced the VTP into the VTS and its running fine on the P06 with the d15b p08 basemap. No CEL now and vtec kicks in as it should.

Still a little smoke and running a bit rich. Lets see what mileage I get with this tank and will update.

But any one what can cause it to run rich?

so far its running great, best it ran so far. Its still smoking a little I think its oil. is it because the motor is just getting broken in or something? It is a jdm swap that has been sitting for a while I guess.

Cars still runs strong, and better on gas, I just changed out the Fuel Filter today for abrand new one.

I live in florida and turns out it may be burning oil because I was told to put 5w-30 in there, and now someone else telling me no I gotta use 10w-30

Any input?

since you live in a warmer climate, 10w30 will be just fine!

Do you have an emulator? Doing live changings while driving is the ****.

On My nissan 240sx i made 3 maps on tunerpro, a street map, race map, and lean burn/emission/econemy map.

Street was for 9psi, race was 14psi tune, and lean burn was for 5 psi and leaner afr's and pulled timing. ON a boosted rb20 it netted nearly 33 mpg highway, compared to a stock 27ish on stock epromed ecu.

Glad to see your figure it out

5W-30 or 10W-30 both work fine. However, as you know, down here in the Orlando area it doesn't get cold enough to constitute using 5W-30 specifically. 10w-30 is good until ≤20º F, so just use 10W-30 if you can and 5W-30 if you can't get 10W-30.

If you're stilling having problems with the gas, try pouring some Lucas Fuel Stabilizer in when you fill up next time.

Just did the oil change today with 10w-30 and added the lucas oil

so far it is smoking less, but the gas mileage is still horrible, it is at less than 1/2 tank and only got 100 miles, thats going to be > 200 miles to the tank!

I changed the fuel filter, added injector cleaners, brand new O2 sensor, the car has no CEL running the d15b basemap, I am clueless right now.

the lucas oil stabilizer?

if that helped, it would indicate that you have leaky valve seals.

one thing that helped me on the burning rich thing was simply driving it for awhile, some times if you pull your vacume lines and put them back on helps cause it releases gas fumes out of the system. try also using some fuel injector cleaner, if it was siting for a while it is possible one injector could be sticking. if that doesnt work then turn down the fuel output in crome, if possiple.

I would look to the fuel maps. Use a wideband like a smarty pants tuning his own car would do

There is a JDM D15B vtec engine. Its basically a MINI-Me swap made by HONDA. Its a D6 head with a vx d15 block. With a slightly more aggressive cam than the d16z6. Some people say its fairly compared to the zex stage 1 cam.

Not really. The VX block is just what the D15B is closest to in USDM. They're not identical. Also, the JDM D15B head uses different parts, just the same casting as the Z6.

True.....pistons are diffirent etc. But you get the point. Its like it was a MINI ME by HONDA.

I had it before and loved it. I have a z6 now and feel that my D15B was better. The only thing i hated from it was my mileage even though i tried everythiong to make it like a z6..emissions wise. Still iwas getting like 15-18mpg..tops. Never found out what was wrong with it since i traded the car.
