Help figure out my engine problem and i will Paypal you $20
UPDATE: The engine is running. However, the P28 isn't working. It struggle in 2nd gear, so I'm using a p06 for now. As for the cause of all this ordeal, it was the extra plug for the resistor box. I had to pull the pin from the "extra plug" and put it back in its original plug.
As for the reward, I have to go back and reread all the posts and see who gave some detailed information on the resister box. There were several post regarding this. I'll pick the one that was posted first and had detailed information. That person will be paypalled $20 as promised.
Thanks for everyone's help.
I just installed a new z6 in my hatchback and having problems starting it up. Anyone have any tips going about this? Some detailed directions would be great. I did a search but there wasn't much detailed information.
Things I've checked:
- the spark plug wire sparks
- hoses
- fuses
- wiring
Any help will be greatly appreciated
The engine is cranking, turning over, but just not starting. It does smell like fuel so I'm sure it's getting fuel. I checked for spark by putting the spark plug wire next to a bolt and yes it sparked. As far as timing goes, this engine was removed from a running civic 3-4 months ago. It started right up back then, but it has just been sitting for the past 3-4 months. As for the plugs, everything is plugged in.
If you can point out what's wrong and give me detailed instructions how to go about fixing it, I'll paypal you $20. Remember, your suggestion is worth $20 if it starts my engine.
Here are some pictures:

Check the 02 sensor. I swapped an engine one time and for some strange reason the 02 sensor decided to die. This might be a long shot. You'll figure it out.

it should start even if the o2 isn't hooked up.

also, did you check the spark plugs? step on the gas when you crank? even though i know its not a carb'ed car, i did that to my 240 and it started up.

you can also try making sure your battery is givving enough power to start it up, also it looks like in the last picture the hose that goes to the fuel filter looks bent might not be getting enough gas. Just thinking dont know if it will help but you could try checking it out. It could be something little like that.

maybe you got too much gas in the engine and its flooded? You say that you were stepping on the gas while cranking, but was it all the way down? or were you just pumping it?
On my girls hatch when i start her car and shut it down within 30sec - 1min, the next time we try to start it, it wont, engine is flooded. It just keeps cranking, until i floor the pedal while keeping it cranked and after 10 sec the motor will start to fire.
so thats my .02, try keeping the pedal floored and crank the engine. Give that a go.

i've tried flooring it. I've also tried pumping it. To make sure that it wasn't floored i hand cranked the engine several times too

try testing the alternator? when my engine kept cranking but not starting, the mechanic replaced the alternator, and voila, problem fixed.

you didn't swap the tps & MAP plugs did you, IE plus the map one into the TPS sensor and the TPS into the MAP, it won't throw a CEL, but won't start for ****.
an easy way to check and see if you are getting fuel, pull off the plug wire to a cylinder, crank it over for a second or so. Pull the plug and see if there is raw fuel on it.
but you need 4 things for an engine to run:
1. spark
2. fuel
3.compression
4. timing
so, if you are getting spark & fuel, then you need to see if you still have timing, ie your distributor is maybe turned off 180 degrees. if you have spark, then your t-belt is still good. you can normally hear compression too from the exhaust. or just do a compression test, but if that was the case. one capful of automatic tranny fluid.

I did not mess up on the tps and MAP plugs. the tps plug is not long enough to reach the MAP. As for the distributor, it's not turned 180.
I'm lost with the "one capful of automatic tranny fluid."

In the pics the head looks really shiney did u have it redone and put the motor back together and set the timing wrong, and as far as checking to see if the cars getting fuel, crank the car over and pull a plug and see if its wet

the ECU is plugged in. I tried a p28 and a p06. So i guess it's not the ecu
