Default Help with engine!!

Just a quick question,

I am willing to spend around 1500-2000 for a swap into a 95'-99' Civic Coupe. Ive heard many different answers and looked through search.

I would be using the car as a daily drive, so turbo or boost would not be the best choise.

How much could i get a B18 Swap? or how about a B16? Ls-vtec?

Ive heard about a Frankenstein engine and a Poor Mans Type-R. But i have no clue what those 2 are!!... Im looking for a reliable engine that will last me more than 3 years. But i would also want to race with it.

I was thinking about B16 with I/H/E, how much would that run me and what would be the average hp?

Any sudgestions would be great, I havent fully decided what year the coupe would be.. most likely 95'-99'. I kno the 99' Civic Si has a B16 but they usually have 150000 km and more on the engine.

i have a b16a and i did alot of things itr cams throttle body i/h/e/ intake manifold 450 injectors fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump and all i made was 164whp with only 107wtq thats close to what a stock gsr make but with less torque. and with all the money i spent i could have got a gsr. another option is lsv you should be able to find an ls block pretty cheap. just gotta find a b16 or gsr head. and get a kit to make an oil tap for vtec but its up to you it depends what u want

Peice together a B20vtec, they are cheap to put together and simple to put into an EG (92-95) and also make good power.

Yup, try to get the newer B20 block if you do since the compression is a little higher. But you can easily peice together a B20vtec with new itr/gsr oil pump and what not for 3K

...read up on LS/VTECs and the difference between the non-vtec and vtec blocks. LS/VTEC and B20/VTECs make good power, but aren't designed to rev that fast.

Noone has answered my other question.

What is a Poor Mans Type R nor what the Frankenstein engine?

Is a B20 if built correctly reliable or is the ultimate favorite the B16? Are they easy to swap since most likely id be giving it to a shop or letting my friends dad swap it instead. I have heard many different engines but im looking for speed but as well as not too expensive.

B20 are cheap and good but i heard they do not last too long, B16 are reliable, cheap and respond well to Bolt-ons and have decent horsepower stock. I would not want to spend more than 3k tops, I need to ask my friend for prices.. he said he could get me a very good deals on engine plus swap.

poor mans typer is a gsr block w/ a b16 head.... i refer to frankenstein engine as anything that is non vtec being converted to vtec... or putting the head of a motor where it doesnt really belong.

i have a b16 and its a dog with torque, but when vtec engages its fun... if i were you id go with a gsr if u can get one cheap

and read that link i posted: https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...ght=faq+lsvtec

.
Yes if you do the B20vtec correctly it will be pretty fast, and reliable. B16's are junk IMHO, they are fun when vtec crosses over but your still not gonna be goin anywhere fast lol. Ive had a variety of B series motors (B16, B18C1, ls/v, and a B20/v) and the B20vtec was the best of all of them. I would whoop up on Type r swapped hatches, evo's, built preludes, ect. all day long. Do some research tho and do what you think best suits your needs

Ls swaps all day long including wiring, linkage, tranny, motor, with 70k, teg mounts, and cv axels. . Gsr's go for 2k. complete. Located in atlanta. has paperwork and vin tags still in tact and clean.. ready to go.

You can do a full ls swap(tranny, engine, ecu, linkage, and mount brackets) for $1000-$1500 all day long in good condition.
And frankly with a good driver; smash on stock b16's.
Pair it up with an s80 gsr tranny and your golden. Plus b18b and b20 are so turbo friendly because of the lower compression so if you decide to go turbo later you can do so. Or slap on a vtec head.
In other words the ls has more options/power possibilities. Ane theyre cheap just to get your foot in the door and givr you some time to think of what route you wanna go.

Im in Montreal, Quebec.

I need to ask my friend since he said he could get me a good deal on a GSR Swap. Hopefully it will be under my 3k budget.

How much HP does a GSR give? Any1 have a link?

Soo B16 is not a good engine for reliability and HP? or is a GSR better?

I have been looking around, with the search bar. I just wanted to ask around.

Is a GSR better than a B20 vtec? or a B18C? B16? lol.. im a noob.

I have done alot of research but it seems to me everytime i look at a different thread a new engine is brought up.

Specs on GSR anyone? and whats WHP?

Thank You to whoever answers..

B20 VTEC is the best all motor B series setup.
WHP is wheel horsepower instead of crank HP or BHP (brake horsepower).
A GSR has 180HP.

@ Jimster: Which would you rather have B20vtec or GSR?

What Tranny would be best for either B20 or GSR.

I wouldnt rev my engine even past 5k rpm lol. Im using it to drive to school on the highway, the fastest id go would be 120 km/h. Although on the weekend it would be used to race, either on the track or on the street.

I would be wasting my time and money with a B16?
It would be an all motor build anyways, not taking the boost path.

I would do a B20VTEC if i didnt have a turbo D.
And I would put it on a GSR tranny or a B16 Tranny with LSD.
