Help With CEL 45
Hi Guys
First off I do want to thank everyone here. You guys have help me out a lot since I bought my 98 hatchback. It is my first honda and man has it been a headache but I do love my car and this forum!!!
With that said I have tried search and what i found was helpful but nothing has worked.
I original had a cel because I did not have a cat and I figured that by adding the cat the cel would go away and it did for a few days until I went to get it smogged.
They ran the code reader and out popped up the cel.
I went to autozone to have it looked at and it came back with p0170 and p0171.
So off I went to search those codes and possible fixes.
I have no leaks. I have replaced o2 sensors. I have no cracks on the exhaust manifold. I have all gaskets in place and they are fine.
I cleaned my throttle boday and IACV.
I also have a fluctuating idle. It does go away when i reset the ECU but as soon as the cel comes back it starts to bogg and the idle goes out of wack.
I also think my timing is off becaquse i was missing to bolts on the dizzy when I bought it.
Could the timing being off throw a cel 45?
Any help from the Honda gods would be appreciated.
Sorry for the long winded post... I'm just running out of options...

Re: Help With CEL 45
put it on a scan tool that can read the o2s voltage and or back probe the sensor and read it with a dvom or even better a scope. it should switch back and forth across .5v, if its sitting low like .2v or .3v and not coming up you can try adding supplemental fuel (propane works good) and see if the O2 sensor voltage jumps up. If it does Make sure no exhaust leaks by the front O2 sensor. Check the voltage on the front O2 sensor on the White wire with a voltmeter to verify the voltage matches the scan tool. Check fuel quality - see if someone filled with E-85 fuel or too much fuel system cleaner.
