Icon6 Hello with stripped valve cover stud b16a2

Hey guys I need a hand. I went to remove the valve cover on my b16a2 the other day and the moron who owned it before me stripped the two studs on the transmission side of the head. I've considered cutting off the dome nuts and trying to back out the stud then heil coiling it. I don't know the best route to get this thing off. It wouldn't be so bad if it was only one but it's two on the same side. Any input?

If I read you right you haven't stripped the threads , just rounded off the corners?

you can try this:

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-10-pc...p-00952166000P

I've used a snap on extractor one and it worked like a charm.

or with a file and some big vise grips. you can put some flats on with the file for better grip

Yea I think you read the post wrong. It's not the dome nut that's stripped. It's the actual thresded studs that come out from the head that the valve cover goes over.

If it's stripped down there, maybe you can remove the remaining nuts and lift up on the valve cover as you try to remove the two that are stripped. You might be able to create enough tension on what's left of the threads and avoid cutting anything. Then you can helicoil as necessary.

I would cut the stud in the fattest part with atleast an inch left sticking out of the head and use an extractor to pull it out then replace it.

do you mean the bit I'm pointing to with my finger? Or do you mean the head itself is stripped? I'm confused by your post on what exactly the problem is

@shoutoutaccord I am assuming that this stud is stripped in the head. I haven't gotten the cover off bc when I try to take the nuts that hold the cover down off they just keep spinning. @24ten that's what I was thinking of trying before cutting.

Oh, I get it now sorry for being an idiot.

thats tough man, maybe you can take the rest of the nuts off and carefully take the whole stud out with the nut attached unscrewing both of them. If the nut is holding the stud better than the head this should work.

That has not even been established as the valve cover has not even been removed. It's an assumption that the OP shouldn't be making until the VC is off.

I am trying to avoid cutting anything. The angle is not the easiest. @grumblemarc considering there is a threaded stud that is continuously spinning without coming out, my assumption is that something is stripped.

It takes all of 2 minutes to pull the VC off and see.

If you had read the post properly you would of noticed that, that's what I'm trying to do.

Have we actually attempted to lift the VC? Because if they're stripped then what's holding them on the head?

The stud come out of the head and the valve cover goes over the studs, then a dome nut threads onto the stud with a grommet. When I try to take the nut off the whole stud just spins in the head. Like I said earlier.

Get a pry bar and rip that bitch off. I guess you could helicoil but that head sounds fucked to me. Or cut the valve cover somehow without metal shavings everywhere.

or just rebuild it and sell me the b16 head so I can grab a LS engine

That means nothing is biting into the head. Just trying to understand how the VC is not coming off if there is technically nothing holding it to the head.

I'm going to try and lift on the VC after getting off the nuts that I can and get pressure on the remaining to and see if they will grab. The other option is to start cutting. Yea good try @shoutoutaccord, I don't think so.

If you can't lift the valve cover because a dome nut cannot be removed than dremel it off and order another valve cover stud from honda. Is there another way for me to say that so you can understand?

If you're saying the head is fucked because of a valve cover stud you are mistaken.

There is no god damn way to **** up the valve cover because the dome nut sits on top of a rubber gasket.

OP dremel that **** off and be done with.
