Default heater problem???

I went to go wash my car today and as I was driving I had the heat full blast and all of a sudden I had no more heat!!! So I was messing with the hot-cold slider and nothing happened, it stayed cold. Well I stopped at the gas station turned off the car and turned it back and what do you know I have heat again! About 5 minutes later while driving home heat the goes to cold again for about 2 minutes and goes right back to hot. Does anybody know what is causing this????

Do you have enough coolant? Check that first.
