Theres a rubber boot that goes over the shifter. If that isent put on properly or is stretched or damaged it will allow heat to enter the cab area along with exhuast gases ect if its not sealing properly.

Its part 7 or 8 I forget which,

it's not #8. That's the weird deal that cradles the ball on the shifter. It'll be 1, 6 or 7.

I misread, just like the poster of the picture did. I meant #6, just as he did, I'm sure.

ok, Ive been looking at that thing for a half hr and cant find number 6. The part Im referring to is a rubber boot that goes over the shifter and goes around the raised up piece going thro the floor board. theres like a grove it seats into to keep everything out.

Edit I think I MAY have figured it out. It appears that there is two #8's in the pic one of them is obviously a 6 so if the top most one right below the shiffter is #6 then that is the part you need for sure. Sorry for the mix up.

now i have both the dc header and the dc short shifter and since putting the shifter in i have noticed the shifter itself getting hot to the touch but no heat from the ebrake handle. not sure if the #6 peice is on my car don't remeber seeing it when i was doing the swap. but if im reader the posts right if that is missing there can be heat by the shifter?????

Are you all sure its not # 11?

I think it is, cause it sorta fits in the hole in the chassis, and is at the bottom.

See the inner parts seals around the shifter and the outer part goes around that lip, its off in that pic tho and is propably your proplem.

yeah but with that boot would the dc short shifter still get warm. since aluminum is a very good conductor of heat

when you remove the ebrake console the are two rubber seals that come from under the car where the ebrake cables come thru. if those aren't sealed right heat will come in thru there. hope this helps

Metal is good heat conductor. The exhaust piping is right under the shifter area, within a couple inches. The shifter is made of metal, whichever metal that might be, so it is going to get hot.

There is a heatshield right above it, but it doesn't do anything. It doesn't dissipate heat worth a crap.

And lets think about this people, don't you think the ebrake area is close enough to the shifter that heat rising up from that area could feel like it's coming from the ebrake area? There is just a little more open area for the heat to travel through because the ebrake boot isn't attached like the shift boot.
