Default Heat

Ive got a newb question, Ive always used 10w30 oil in my Z6, well I changed my oil and used 10w40 and it seems to run a little hot sometimes, the needle is just barely past halfway if I leave it sit in one spot, When I take off, it cools down to normal. As far as running I had some starter issues but got them resolved, it pulls hard all through the gears and runs nice. Any ideas?

Would that make it run a little cooler?

form reading your original post, it looked like it ran fine with 10w30 oil in it.

10-40 is thicker so it has more friction... sure it'll make it run a little hotter...

just switch back to what you should be using and don't vary from it till there's a problem with what you should be using (like burning oil... you'd go up a weight or two to try to prevent the oil from sneaking past the rings)... however this isn't always a good idea as parts that are meant to be lubricated may not be because the thicker oil will not fit in some tight places.
