Default Headlight questions for an EG

I know I know I did search. However everything I found was from 2003. I am hoping there is some new light on the situation.

I just picked up a 92 Hatch and noticed that the headlights suck. I live in the country and need to be able to see deer before they are in my grill. What are my options for improving my head lights. I have read about the HID mods and also about swapping out bulbs but would like to know what is the best bang for the buck.

One thing I dont want to do is loose my highbeams. Also I am looking for function no how cool they look.

If I do go HID what is the best light to put them in (I know non-fluted but who makes a good one?)

Do they make a 9006/9005 projector headlight?

Sorry for all of the questions but that more I read the less I understand.

FYI the eBay projectors suck *** and fit like ****.

I have a pair because like you, I thought the factory ones sucked.

You wanna know what suck is then you should try aiming these pieces of ****.

Just get some Sylvania SiverStars ($40) and they are pretty good at giving off good light. I would shy away from the HID but if you want it get it, however most of them you loose the high beam function with the H4 bulb. You can get them at any auto store or Wal-Mart/ Target.

I was afraid of that.

I read that they only last 1/3 as long as normal bulbs.

"You gotta pay to play" I have had mine for nearly two years without a blown bulb (now I will probably blow a bulb b/c of this ) I don't think $40 is really that expensive at all, afterall if you blow one, go buy another set and you have an extra one.

i heard the jdm headlights lens will help the bulb shine more brighter and provide more visibility due to the different material of the lens.

idunno mine are hard as hell... i've had glass headlights on my 89 legend and i've been to the junkyard plenty of times... i've seen them shattered and they feel like the same material as my 95 coupe... what's wrong with glass?

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Often, EDM ("e-code") and JDM headlamps perform better than their USDM DOT-approved counterparts due to superior optics and differences in governing regulations. While it would technically be "illegal" to use these non-DOT housings in the U.S., in practice it is rarely an issue in most cases. While I haven't seen any direct comparisons involving EG headlamps, I can attest to the fact that VW e-codes are far superior to the DOT lamps, and are a common and effective lighting upgrade.

try a PIAA brand bulb if you don't want to go HID. from a local shop they offer lifetime warranties. OR go Catz Zeta kit.

Denji projectors are good. I love mine, great quality, glass lens, fit good. I even have a separate harness that tie them directly into the battery so they're extra bright. Normal beams stay on when the brights are on too with the harness.

tyc offers a headlight with an hid low beam projector, and still has a normal halogen high beam. also you could find an old set of denji or shark eyes projectors and retrofit an hid projector in place of its halogen projector, and still have a halogen high beam. i have no opinion on either of these as i have had neither but these are options that meet your criteria. and by the way, yes usdm headlights are glass, i shattered my originals by accident, glass was everywhere. anyway hope this helps.
