header question
What makes a good header. you see some for over $300 and then you see some for under $75. is there any difference in HP gains. and whats the difference between an aftermarket and a regualar OEM? Might sound like a stupid question but im new to header upgrades..

Re: header question (binkster)
300 bux for a good header is a joke
800-1200 for good quality headers that make good power and made with quality
i got the damn dc 4-1 stainless steel.....err biggest regret of a mod yet...it makes power ....it look like crap. I guess the thing is u can't just save up for a $900 header cuz if u dent it or scrape it or anything you r just gonna cry so get the 300 dollar one then later on get a quality one
as for the super cheap ones...those aren't for power...more for sound...and looks so u don't got some rusty header on there
thats all boys and girls

Re: header question (SikCivic)
damn 1200 for a header.... save 500 bucks more and you've got a turbo.
boltons are kind of a waste of money, in my opinion.
header: 300 (2-5 whp)
intake: 200 (2-5 whp)
exhaust: 400 (5-10 whp)
total: ~900 for 9-20 whp
boltons are kind of a waste of money, in my opinion.

agreed spend the money on a nice swap and internals then suspension

i say suspension, than swap or turbo. but so many people waste money on boltons first (or just stop there). ok, so you've spent a grand and your car is still slow.
sure, if you do go turbo or do a swap bolt-ons are great, almost necessary, and worth it; but to just put i/h/e on a d series seems kind of retarded to me.

Re: header question (jwn7)
only way to win wit a D is when its built
really stop all the i/h/e are the best mods advice ....its really not unless u want small performance and good sound and looks...how bout a new valvetrain to rev to 9k?

Re: header question (SikCivic)
Keep the opinions comeing, the suspensions done, now its time for engine work. Should I just hold off and go for the B18c swap. I feel bad cause the d16y8 I have in there only has about 30k on it. I blew the old one and the honda dealer would only put in the origianl and I felt kinda skeptical about going to a non honda place to have my engine put in..... SHERWODD HONDA DEALERSHIP and you dont want to know what I paid to do the swap....

Re: header question (binkster)
30k is nothing... i say turbo that d. a b18c5 is gonna run you close to 6k done deal. you could have one hell of a boosted d16 for that price - built bottom & head and a fat *** turbo. you could piece together a good custom turbo setup for around 2k. turbo d

I agree to a point, but I think it depends on how you go about spending the money. For me, I don't have much money to play with. I bought an intake about 3 years ago, and then just two months ago I finally got an exhaust. Now, in another 6 months I may pick a header. I don't consider it a waste when you buy it over time, but if you just went and spent $800 all at once, then you could look into mods that are better.
