At least on my EK it doesn't really take that much turning.. when you turn it, does it seem to move upwards at all?

they said it could take up to 5 days of turning ;-)

ahh sorry, umm it shouldn't take that long. and really if you are unscrewing the shift **** you should notice it moving upwards... and the threads should start becoming noticeable. if so then you are on the right track. if you turned for 15 min and still don't see the threads thennn i would check to see if there is something else holding that **** on (sometime after market ***** have little screws that tighten down to hold the **** in place)

Well when I'm turning it, it does move up and down, but it's done that since I got the car

It's probably a set screw shift ****. The aftermarket ones usually have three little screws that tighten down onto the shifter, not the actual threads. Is there a section on the bottom of the shift **** that unscrews to reveal the heads of the screws?
