My suggestion would be, to stop ripping your car apart and take a "Basics of Automobiles" class.

The charcoal traps gasoline vapors from the fuel tank (and carburetor on older vehicles). Later, the vapors are purged and drawn into the engine when the vehicle is being driven.

Jeep Grand Cherokee's have that same stupid POS. It only traps the gasoline vapors when the car is sitting there turned off. On most Jeeps it's right where the drivers front tire flexes so many people rip theirs off four wheeling and other people remove them.

Most people didn't notice anything different.

EVERYONE who has had it removed passed emissions.

So I say if you are removing all that other crap why the hell not.

Removing it hurts your gas mileage and increases your emissions output, but not the emissions they test at the smog station. If you like smog, go spend 12 hours in Tijuana. A bloody nose, black boogers, clogged sinuses, dizziness, and that god awful smell are enough to make me adamant about retaining the smog equipment on my car. I don't want my car to smell like a big lawnmower...

If I remember correctly oh OBDII version b (all 99-00 model) have sensor in their as well as in the gas tank. So if you don't have it the check light will go on and you will not pass smog.

This is required because when you fill your tank with cold fuel it will expand if the air temperature is warmer than the fuel in the ground. As the fuel expands it has to go somewhere and that tank is to take the overflow of fuel, or vapors.

One of the tubes leads up to the "purge cannister". This is the "vent to air" route when fuel vapor pressure is too high. The vapors are captured in the purge canister and then sucked into the engine for burning when driving.

So you sort of don't want to remove that "plastic box" - unless of course you like the smell of gas fumes.

By the way, a high concentration of gas fumes around your car is not recommended. A small spark in the wrong place and -- BOOM!

I used the EK can instead of trying to fit the integra one when I put the B18C1 in my 97 HX. Works fine, passed CT emissions last December.

What year B18C1 ECU did you use? If you use 98 and back ECU, those ecu does not lock for sensor in the Charcoal Tube or the gas tank.

For you guys wondering what charcoal canister is...
Its number 11 in this pic.

What its for? Believe it or not gasoline gives off vapors that are harmful for the environment and the charcoal absorbs some of them.

Is it necessary? Nope it isn't. JDM eg6's didn't come with them. And the one I had when I was stationed in japan ran like a bat out of hell. But the canister has little to do with your engines performance.
