Default Handling: Coupe vs. Hatch

Which is better and why? Let's not leave it at one answer though, let's discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both. Note differences between EG and EK models too.

well the EG hatch is the lightest out of all of them, so I would imagine it handles the best, given the same mods...

for your info, hatchs are no lighter then the dx civic, and why would lighter be better when it comes to handling, its more about balance, sometimes weight is your friend when you trying to stick into a corner, but if the weight is in the wrong spot, off the road you go.

CX hatchback: 2094lbs.
VX hatchback: 2094lbs.
DX hatchback: 2178lbs.
Si hatchback: 2326lbs.

stock weights, provided by tom.

Already did asswipe, and yes I found the thread about the 5th gen one, there was no good technical information in it whatsoever. I want to hear good valid points about the differences between the two. So don't come at me with your search bullshit.

At least CivicTypeNos came in here with some facts, but weight doesn't have everything to do with handling.

STEVE MEYER BEEN TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF YOU !!!!!!! INTERESTED IN YOUR USDM P-30 !!! please e-mail me ! EyesInTheBackOf@aol.com Sorry to mess up your guy's flaming debate !!! But they both have good handling and varying benifit's depending on what your trying to do, hatches are nice and light for drag and total weight reduction, but coupe's and four door's have a little more weight and a trunk that offset's the balance for stable handling around corner's... On the same note hatches have a more stream line shape for better aerodynamic's so less wind drag - so they are almost even as far as stock oem car's are concerned . In my book it just kinda boil's down to driving style and preference and what your planning on doing with it I think !!!!

what i think really, my car " EK " handles the way i like it with 205-55-15s potezna tires and front strut bar, rear skunk2 strut, lower tie bar, Tokico shocks gas shocks, and max speed coilovers runs good for me, my next mission is to get my sway bars in and waiting for my custum built rollcage to be put in, roger and the facts are all on the driver RIGHT? it doesnt matter, if you have the same mods its all depending on whos the driver, if i am right give me a thumbs up thanks, hopefully that's the answer you are looking for cant really help you as much on this one, but if i am wrong hopefully someone will correct me

Nah I was posting about STEVE MEYER'S P-30 . But thank's anyway !!! It's kinda funny how people want to think that their preference in chasis and or mods is the best . Realistically we are all using variation's of the same thing ! There isn't anything new under the sun !!!!!!!!Everything that is worth doing has been done in one shape or form . If it can be done it has been or there's a kit someone make's to do it ! Ford had a 4cyl. cosworth motor that was outlawed in the states because of it's high output, that has been in use in europe for year's before anyone in the states ever even heard of pumped up honda's or vtec or for that matter even thought of fixing up anything that would be considered FAST smaller than a V-8 floormat ... I think stock ek hatches look to much like geo metro's in the back so I don't really think they look good without some sort of spoiler but some other guy might think my eg6 look's like a freaking egg ... Same goes for my mods and chasis, suspension etc. What work's good for me may not seem good to someone with different driving style or what they are used to or like ... What feel's slugish to me might seem stable to a coupe owner and what feel's nimble to me might seem squirrely and out of control to him so why would anyone be jealous of anyone else escape's me they are all honda's no better no worse just different !!!! Sorry I went off guy's group hug .... lmao !

Wow, what an idiot infested thread.

If the wheelbases are the same on both models which I think they are, handling will be fairly similar, if anything the coupe may handle better due to more weight over the rear.

If I could start all over I would get a 92 DX Sedan.

Ok, well, I autocross and there is a fast coupe and a few fast hatches within tenths of each other, does that help at all?

Just get whatever the hell you like better, it doesn't matter.

I'm not trying to get in the middle here...But why is there so much tension between everyone? This is just a simple thread asking a simple question...Why is everyone attacking the author of the thread in one manner or another?

Let's just be cool guys...Relax, and all be friends. Please.

Wheelbase difference is Coupe = 103.2 inches
Hatchback =101.3 inches

Ive had 3 hatches and a coupe and I feel they both handle great after upgrades.

Seems there is alot more hatches involved in roadracing than coupes though.
