GSR Tranny in a b16a3 del sol..
Okay, my stock tranny is going out of me, so my boys are gonna hook me up with a jdm GSR tranny..
now here's the question... and its a dumb, but serious one, how am i gonna tell if it really is a GSR tranny? Also, is this a good idea.. or am i gonna have more problems with the GSR tranny..

Well, youre getting it from your "boys", shouldn't it be the type of tranny they say it is?
You shouldnt have any problems with it, it should bolt right up. Your car will be a bit slower through the gears, because the GSR has a tad bit lower gearing than the Del Sol tranny...

Not sure how to tell which is which, but I think the GSR trannys gearing is a bit longer. I'm switching out my GSR tranny for a 99Si tranny this weekend, cause my shift fork is bent, and my friend is telling me that because of the gearing, my car will feel a little faster. Maybe with the GSR tranny, your car may feel a little different.

you will have a slightly higher top speed, but slightly slower acceleration if you switch to the GSR...
The difference is very small, you might not even notice one.

the gsr tranny will have a y80 on the id sticker... gear ratios are the same 1st thruthird with 4th and fifth being differetn. final drive is different as well....
sc4/y21(b16)
first - 3.230
second- 2.105
third- 1.458
fourth- 1.107
fifth- .848
final drive- 4.4
y80 trans(gsr)
first-3.230
second-2.105
third-1.458
fourth-1.034
fifth-.787
final drive-4.784
the ratios arent much different...its the final dirve that makes the difference...hope this helps.
