GSR Disc Brake Conversion = Different Pedal Travel??
Hey all,
Recently completed the GSR rear disc brake conversion on my '00 EJ8 coupe, complete with beefy Nissin GSR master cylinder and booster, and proportioning valve from a Civic Si.
My question is: has anyone else noticed that after doing this mod their brake pedal travel is different? Braking performance definitely seems better, but the brakes don't start engaging until the pedal is a full inch or so lower in its travel than they used to. Is this just because the master cylinder is bigger, or could it be due to a junky master cylinder or booster? The reason I ask is primarily because the MS and booster came from the junk yard and could have been in better shape...
TIA for any replies!

Thanks for the reply
I bled the living bajesus out of it before but I will check the booster to pedal screw... didn't realize it could be shortened.

I had the same issue, I ended up taking my car to a shop and it was bleed through a machine/pump...issue resolved.

My EG6 literally has like 1/4 of travel in the brake pedal with a 15/16 master cylinder.
I think your brake master cylinder is leaking or you didn't get all the air out of the lines.

Nope... Installed it clean and dry, filled with ATE Super Blue, and bled it in the car following the sequence in the FSM for farthest to closest. (It was a somewhat wacky unintuitive sequence iirc. Front right, rear left, rear right, front left, or something like that.) I did spend a lot of time bleeding though.
I won't be able to work on the car for another few weeks, but I plan on doing a powerbleed right away when able.

I don't think bench bleeding is necessary. However I think your master cylinder is old and leaking. I'd recommend spending the $100 or so dollars and buying a new one.
Oh, one thing you could look into...
It's not uncommon for older cars like ours to get some flexing after installing a new or bigger master cylinder. The excessive pedal travel could just be caused by your master cylinder flexing. You could try and construct a master cylinder brace and see if that helps.
