if your just doing the pistion rings its kinda of a waste, you might as well get everything rebuilt while your in the block. You can always just send the head in to a machine shop and have them replace valve seals which wouldnt be that expensive.

yep, go ahead and send the head in and get the stem seals replaced or ur gona still be leaking oil. get a 3 angle done on it also. check the walls and make sure u have no scuffing. all gaskets and seals. and u may wana just go ahead and change the bearings out also.

How much oil is it using?

Every Honda I've ever had seems to go through about 1/2 quart every 3K miles, even when they were new... My 00 Civic did it when I bought it with 7K miles on it. It seems like my GSR tends to use more if I'm in vtec more.

If it's that much or less, I wouldn't worry about it much.

If you really want to figure out the problem without a complete rebuild, I think you need a leakdown test. It's the only way you'll find out if it's rings or valve seats.

so if i bought a set of type r piston+rings could i put them on my gsr rods and if i got valve seals that would stop the burning oil problem

I wouldn't bother with Type R pistons, go with something like a P30 B16 piston set with rings. And yes, new valve stem seals would a wise decision.....engine should run like new, and with the higher compression, you'll make more power

Why, who told you that????

B16 pistons have always made more compression
