grinding when IN gear?
ok..this mite sound dumb and its a little hard to explain, so please bear with me...
I was driving my b16 powered EG hatch yesterday, and everything was fine until the big rain storm hit.
I then noticed that while i was IN 2nd or 3rd gear...when i let off the gas, i could hear some grinding from the shifter area. you could also feel the shifter vibrate.
now normally people would say i got 3rd gear VTACK grind when ur shifting into gear. this however, is by far very different. all my gears go in very smoothly. its just that when its IN gear...and i let off on the accelrator when i could hear and feel vibration from the shifter. it sounds like a grind to me.
now...could this be cause of the massive rain storm i drove through? could water have some how gone into my tranny? i'm thinking of flushing the tranny fluid and pouring brand new fluid in. however, if anyone has any thoughts any help would be appreciated.
remember..this just happened...and its very frustrating to hear my car grinding while IN gear.
thanks in advance...krazn

I can't imagine the storm causing the problem.... how long have you had the clutch? stock?
I would try flushing it like you said, but I really doubt that's it.

Exactly what I was thinking. Make sure everything is tight under there.

It couldn't be anything wrong with your tranny while in gear. If there is tranny grinds while in gear (not when shifting) then you probably grenaded the tranny and it's about to go out. But, the symptoms you told us sounded like the shifter linkage hitting the exhaust.

alright...went under the car yesterday...there were no signs of the shift linkage hitting any part of the exhaust. all bolts are tighten from underneath. i highly doubt my tranny would be causing any grinding. this motor was recently swaped w/ brand new exedy organic clutch not too long ago. i bought the motor from Hmotorsonline. i'm thinking bushing somewhere....i just dont know which one.

Your bolts int he exhaust can be tight and still be rubbing the bottom of the shifter.
My first thought was that it may be your Input Shaft Bearing... Mine went all at once (Though now I know it had been making noise all along) after a long drive...
Is there viration when you let the clutch all the way out but gone when you push it it?
Does the noise come and go as you rev up?
Mine was primarily a Whirring sound that was horrible.

well..when i let the clutch out..and my car jerks...it makes the noise. when i rev..the noise goes away...but when i let off real quick to make the car jerk...is when i get grinding noises. i'm still thinking some type of bushing. i dunno.
it never did that before.

I think you have a syncro problem. Mine did the same deal. After awhile of driving it, it will go about 30 seconds before it will kick itself out of gear.
