Default Got SI cluster - how do I change odometers?

Hey, guys. Just got my SI cluster in that will go in my 98 hatch. How do I go about swapping the odometers so that my car doesn't get a discrepancy? Do I have to remove the lighter plastic backing to get to the screws? Thanks for the help.

ahhh not this question again...does the cluster have less or more milage than that of ur car? if the cluster has less u HAVE to match or beat ur car's milage cuz its illegal to turn down the odometer under lemon law. if it has more...**** it, leave it...or pay a mechanic big bucks to flip them counters....by the way NO mechanics will flip it backwards

I'm not asking how to roll the odometer. I'm actually trying to stay legal. My SI cluster has 45000 miles and my stock cluster has 75000 miles. I'm asking how to swap my 75000 miles odometer to the SI cluster. From my understanding so far, they are just screwed in, but the back of the cluster makes this look like a daunting task.

Anyone who has done this, please post your methods and experiences. Thanks.

YOu don't. You have to take the SI cluster and roll it forward.

Don't bother. Just put it in.

just write down both of your odometer readings then add from there

if your really are worried about tampering w/ the ode, go to a repair garage or dealer and they will put a sticker in the door jam stating true mileage

Look, i'm not trying to be a dick here or anything, but I was hoping for more substantial answers than what I have gotten.

I know I can just write down the mileage and add: i'm not a member of the We-Todd squad. I know I could just add the cluster and not worry about it, but I want to keep everything as accurate as possible. If I should add the SI cluster w/o changing the odometers and go to the emissions place, I would get an odometer disrepancy on the title. If I add the DX cluster before going back, it might look a little stange that I only drove 10 miles in a year. I just want to do this once and not have to worry about swapping clusters before getting work done or anything like that.

TTT again.

dohcsidesi -> Thanks, best response i've gotten so far. I'll have to check with my friend who works for a Honda dealer.

wrong...they're not gonna state the true mileage..just the difference in between the two

i don't know if this will work, but perhaps you could pull off the needles and faces from the two speedometer/odometers and switch them. so you keep your same miles, but just put on the si needle and face on your dx odometer unit. i used an ex cluster in my dx so i could just switch out the entire speedometer/odometer unit without having to worry about disassembling it or messing with rolling the mileage forward or backward. i hope that made sense and/or helps.

ok.
here is your answer.

first you have to...

take the screws out of the back of the cluster. this will allow you to pull the speedometer mechanism out

then you can either...

a. swap the needles and faces over. i dont recommend doing this as it is VERY hard to put the needles back on and have it accurate. anyone that says otherwise is lying.

or

b. pull the speedo mechanism out and take a few pieces out (i could get specific if you REALLY want but ill have to take my cluster out to do it) and this will allow you to roll the odometer forward. you will have to rig up some kind of drill and gear to turn the odometer gear over a few thousand times. this takes longer but (IMO) its not worth it to take the needles off.

short answer... swap needles and faces, or roll the odometer back manually.

Thanks, thinkbrianthink. Looks like i'll put it in for now and take apart my DX cluster to see how much of a bitch it's going to be. I appreciate the help and the cander.

I agree with thinkbrian as I just did something similar this past weekend. Your best option is to swap faces on the speedo as it would take a long time to roll 30k forward.

I asked my Honda dealer and they referred me to a guy who does all of their odometer work (in addition to sevreal other dealers in the area). I called the guy, dropped it off that day, picked it up the next day, and paid him $20. He was certified (whatever that is) and did a great job. The only thing he did was verify that it was my car and then checked the original odometer to confirm mileage (popped his head through the window). Funniest part is that he was actually in the YELLOW PAGES. Bottom line? Ask your dealer for referrals. Hope this helps.

just put it in....i took out my old cluster that had 195000km in and put a SiR one that had 43000....

it does not realy matter just put it in and enjoy it

And to change the odometer there is 2 screws that need to be taken out to remove the moulding around the cluster then once that is removed you must remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster in....then just unplug the wires and plug in the new cluster...i hope that is waht you were looking for

I did this in my EH.

1) popped the neddle off
2) took the screws out that hold the gauge face down
3) remove the screws hold the odometer piece in
4) swap
5) put screws back in to hold in your original odometer
5) put the gauge face back on and put screws in that were holding it
6) this was my tricky part, when i pushed the needle back on, it jumped to 25mph. so what I did was place the needle on top of the small needle that doesn't allow the big needle to fall below 0mph, then push it on and carefully pull the needle up a little to get it off the little needle that holds the mph needle.

IM me if that was a little confusing.
