Default goodnight dashboard

occasionally my guages will drop and the lights will go out on my dash, and the emergency brake light will go on. it will stay like this usually until i start the car again or it randomly decides to kick back in, just as random as when it all goes out. the exterior lights on my car continue working fine so i can see the road at night, i just don't know my speed, etc. radio still works along with everything else in the car, it's just the dashboard lights & guages. i had a diagnostic check run and restarted the computer. no problems found with wiring or anything else, yet problem persists. please help!

sounds like something to do with a ground near or inside the cluster, perhaps?

He means the gauge cluster. It's not hard to pull out, just a couple of screws.
