Default Is this a good idea for a swap

I can pick up a full d16z6 with tranny for 250$ canadian.

I have a CX with 60k on it. I would fully rebuild this motor but this would be used to build a turbo motor.

Is the z6 a good base? I cannot afford to go bseries and for about another grand I could build up this block pretty well.

My goal is to build 200 - 250 WHP. Its a daily driver. Should I buy this engine?
Would it be a good base for my goal?
Have to make a decision by the morning.

hell yeah! if you can get a d16z6 and tranny for $250 go for it

they scoot in cx's....get a p28 as well if its not included

Yes, I would say that the Z6 is arguably the best D series to get your hands on.

man for 250 canadian? **** ya i would buy. tons of ppl love their turbo'd z6. prolly the best d series to turbo. so definately scoop it up if thats what ur planning to do for that price. just make sure u know its in good shape and not gettin ripped off

Thanks. I shall buy it then.

Are they hard to rebuild. I am a rotary guy. New to the honda scene.

Other than ECU what will I need: PS this is going auto to manual in the swap. Shift linkage etc???

I have a hoist to do the work so am willing to take on the project. I want to do this once and do it right.

if you don't buy it...tell me and i will...i can't find a good z6 at i price I will pay, i'd pay that though....250 bucks candian is like 200 USD....not sure, but u better buy that. built and turbo'd...u could get 300 hp out of that sucker, depending on how much boost u go with

It has 200km on it. Its high mileage but he just swapped it was running when it came out I know the history of the motor. Its someone in a local club.

A good port polish and some pistons/rings/bearings/rods should give it another life though

You'll have a few wiring mods to perform but that's about it. All your stock motor mounts and shift linkage will stay in with the new motor, so no need for new linkage or anything. Great deal, go for it! Get some Eagle rods, forged pistons, and a Hondata or Uberdata and you will be ready for boost near your $1000 budget.

I would def. get the Z6....and like others said they are probalby the best d-series motors for turbo. My setup includes a port and polished head with a 3-angle valve job and it rips. I am turboing mine soon and want to have around 210-220 whp on about 9 pounds of boost. With a proper tune these bottom ends can hold around 10 psi of boost on stock internals if not more but i wouldnt wanna push it much more then 10. But i would def. get the Z6 and good luck on your project

Also if it doesnt come with a P28 ecu, my buddy will convert your cx ecu that you already have into a P28 and burn a chip for whatever you want (i.e. Rev. Limit, Fuel curves, ex.) he will also do uberdata and it will make your cx ecu perform just as a P28 but better. The cost for this is around 150 dollars i believe and if anyone here wants there stock ecu converted pm him. His honda tech name is 93turbo16, and his aim screen name is UNCGOLF25. Check out his vouch page if you would like to see what others have to say about his work! But will work great for your turbo setup or N/A setup

Thanks. I wrote down his screen name.

My brother owns a performance shop and I am going to ask him if he has an ECU kicking around. I know he has tonnes of honda stuff leftover from jobs/swaps etc.

Where is your friend located.

Its a good deal if he is in canada but otherwise there would be fee's for shipping it across the boarder.

I have also heard I could use my existing ECU with a V-AFC is this true? Or is the piggyback a dumb idea?

My friend is located in PA. But im pretty sure he would ship to canada, not sure though. If you are going the F/I way i would def. go with uber or hon data. Its the better way to to with forced induction instead of the piggy back system. But if you were to keep your stock ecu with the piggy back it is possible you will jsut have to convert it to a P28 which i dont know all of the details on that but my friend that does it sure does. I would contact him and ask him any questions you may have.

Sorry this is a little off topic, but how well are those turbo
d-series blocks holding up in reliablilty for anyone who has
one. My friend has a turbo kit on his first gen
b16a and it seems like it needs to be maintained
pretty often. It defineately wouldn't be a dependable daily driver.

A valid question but hard to answer. Many variables are included. Condition of the motor, the parts he is using, driving habits, it keeps going. A turbo single cam can be reliable, but anything could with the right amount of money and time. A cliche' staement but very true.

Yeah, I knew those would be important factors in how well your engine
holds up to a turbo. It just seems like those are pretty common here on
H-T and I was wondering if quite a few are having day to day problems,
or a majority do use this setup for daily driving and have not had
any problems.
