Default Getting a 92-95 hatchback soon, found this one. Good/Bad?

1992 Honda Civic DX
97,000 miles
5 speed

It's at a non-Honda dealer and they're asking $2,995. I think that it is a little too much. The inside is very nice except for a crack on the rear plastic. I don't know what's up with the hood, but it wouldn't go down I don't think (Didn't really give an effort to open or close it). It has 2 strips of black tape on the lower part of the rear windows on both sides. It's got whitewalls, lol.

Tell me what you think of it and what I should offer, or if it seems like a good buy at all. Right now, I'm thinking $2,000 or $2,200.

Luckily those are hubcaps on there, too! I think it's begging to become a new project

Low ball them. Offer them from $1800 and work your way up. Don't be embarresed to low ball since they are a dealer anyways.

love the whitewalls
did you check the history? must have been in an accident if the hood won't close right. Should be under $2500 for sure.

there probably accidents involved in past if the hood won't close. check on it's history first. 2995 is definitely too much. i would offer them 1995 and start from there.

Yeah do a search of the VIN. Don’t worry about the hood and crap. Luck under the hood where the fenders meet the frame and where the bumper meets the frame. Hoods and locks can be changed for cheap with trips to the salvage yard. A bent frame can cause troubles. Just look for signs of previous body repair. If none, Low-ball the **** out of them and get a good price.

Good luck and I do thank its begging to be a project car.

why not? a lot of people get civics for project cars the last time i checked

well i plan on sohc vtec head and turbo. keep it real with the sohc. and maybe swap sometime, but sohc does it for me. i will low ball them. the interior is absolutely flawless cept for the crack on the rear plastic piece. i will do a carfax to check the history. and i do believe it's the hood latch that's the problem because i felt under it and the thing felt loose a wobbly. i'll see and maybe get with them sometime later this week about it. thanks for the inputs.

Looks like no rust, no dents, non-ricer owned, white dx, with less than 100k? Man I would grab it for $2900, that's a decent deal. But like they said you walk up there with cash in hand you can walk away with it for alot less.

Hell ya, just for lack of rust alone, thats not easy to find round these parts. Unless there is frame damage like others mentioned.

I agree with the oters about low-balling the dealer. It's obviously had, or will nedd, some kind of repairs, and it's over 10 years old.

As far as the carfax, for something that looks that small, I doubt it's on their system. I had an accident and went through insurance and the police and carfax doesn't show anything when I checked a month and half later. Carfax only checks through the DMV.

But I say go for it if everything checks out OK. The interior alone makes it sound worthwhile if it'll be a daily driver.
