I park on a slight incline on my driveway, 1st gear and ebrake for me. Not sure if theres any reasoning for one gear over another, just that 1st or reverse are gonna slow your car down more than say if it started rolling in 3rd or 4th

Umm, I know if you put it in first it will roll less... Ive never seen anyone put it in second, but it should be the same thing. I put mine in neutral because I dont like killing my car right after I start it up, cause I forget its in a gear and release the clutch.

because your car won't roll back / forward

(if you're facing up on a hill) i put it in first (i haven't heard about that 2nd gear thing though) and i put it in reverse when i'm facing down a hill + ebrake. at first it was pretty hard to remember my car was in gear, but i got use to it the first few times...of kicking my *** when i stalled

i was at the mall one time and this car rolled back in the parking lot, i'm sure that car was in neutral. but i'm just rambling, but hope that helps you understand the whole reasoning of putting your car into gear when you park....

I agree with lee,I hop in my car and dont remember i have it in gear sometimes so i leave it neutral.Keep it in gear to prevent it from rolling in case your e brake mysteriously fails.

Its not completely out of the question to have your ebrake cable snap.

Put it in perspective:

Would you rather have your car roll away and cause $X,XXX dollars in damage, or just put your car in gear and then put it in neutral when you get back in?

Personally I just choose to put my car in gear.

My driveway is flat where i park my car so i use the e-brake and netural because my remote start requires it to activate. When im on the street on an incline i tend to park close to the curb and turn my wheels so if my car does roll it will hit the curb and stop the car. It gets pretty cold here so i use my remote start constantly in the winter, not so much in the summer cause i dont have ac so.

1st gear always, never e-brake. This is what I do and i believe it is the correct way.

I put it in 1st and my ebrake when on a hill and neutral when its level. Just prefrence though cuz your ebrake should hold your car... but if not the 1st gear will help

My mom drove a Subaru in the early 90's she parked her car on a hill in Durham, NC... She just ran into the store for a minute and didn't bother to put it in gear... I guess the ebrake cable failed or something but when she went outside her car had rolled down the hill and right into a cop car.

So always 1st and ebrake for me.

When you leave the car parked in 1st gear, the engine is engaged to the wheels and the car cannot and will not move at all. Give it a try.

The only reason you may need to use your e-brake is if you are parked on an incline and you are a forgetful person. Here's why.

Your car will roll as you soon as you push the clutch in to start your car, unless youre holding down the foot brake. However, if you looked you would know to push the foot brake while pushing the clutch (I do this always even on level surfaces by habit; Most automatics also require you to push your foot brake to change out of park)

I am shocked that people are using e-brake only, especially on inclines. I am glad I am not parked next to them. I guarantee you I can make your car roll with just the e-brake up and I am not that strong of a guy. Only way its moving in 1st gear is if I am strong enough to slide the car.

I park on mostly flat so i just put it in neutral and have the e-brake on, but when i am on any kind of slant i put it in 1st gear with my e-brake on
