Sounds like you broke it.

I dont know if that can be re-calibrated. I suppose you could ask a dealer?

what exactly did you try to do while "messing around" with it? you might just have the needles turned the wrong ways or its possible that you have removed screws from the back and now you have no contacts for the electricals.

yeah and trying to mess with needles on top of it just screwed you over. Your best bet is to find a new cluster and match the miles.

On that year, you can just replace the tach and speedo. They run about $20 each:

They want $121 for the speedo and $63 for the tach.

Where did you get $20 from?

The cheapest i've found is http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com

They want $114 for the speedo and $57 for the tach.

I would just buy a used cluster for less.

I've never seen a used cluster go for less than $150.

looks like $150 is better than $184 and $171 from the dealer for just the gauges. If he wanted a fuel gauge too, that would be another $20.

Buy a used one and save and adjust the mileage yourself?

Good luck actually finding one for $150 though. I've never seen them go for less than that, but usually they are closer to a hundred....and for that you're getting a used product with no guarantee.....I'd take brand new OEM anyday. Thats just me though.

JDM-EJ1, that was the point I was trying to explain to Undertheradar. He said he hasnt seen a cluster for under $150. $150 is still a deal when compared to the dealer prices on just the internal components.

I got my EM1 Cluster for 160 at a meet, so it is something you can get.

Oh and dispite it being a used product, I got the same guarentee than if I bought it from the factory. NONE. Honda does not warranty or allow refunds on electrical components. It will say that right on the bottom of you PO slip on every purchase. Id also take a brand new one any day if possible, but not when I can get the same thing for less in the same shape.

True...you can get it for that, but you may be waiting awhile.

I ordered a new temp gauge from hondaparts.com a few weeks ago and it came in with a busted needle. I sent it back and the sent me a replacement before they even got the broken one. Sound like a guarantee to me.

That's a physical defect, and I am still surpised they took it back. They would not warantee it if it "Didnt work" or gave any type of mechanical defect. They would say that it was the vehicle that caused the problem, therefor its not warrenteed. That's how the dealerships and HAP have always stated on the slips I get from them.

Yeah...my receipt shows the same thing but when I called they didn't even bat an eye. They just have good customer service. For all they know I could have broke it installing it in the car and just lied to them.

Then your motor is still VTEC, right? It sounds like a wiring problem. I had a similar problem going from a non VTEC car to a VTEC car. I had to switch some of the cluster wires. Did you see if the cluster worked normally at any time after the install?
