Default Gas mileage!!!!!!!

Just a lil excited... first time ever I was able to hit 355 miles to a tank compared to 270 . The 270 was with granny driving, and the 355 was half granny driving and half crazyness... I filled up last night again and calculated that I am getting 32mpg-ish. And that's with a crappy IACV leak I have too (which I have been lazy to fix but will tonight).. All I did recently was clean out my O2 sensor with carb cleaner (Decided to search AFTER I cleaned it and then found out that it said NOT to use carb cleaner..oops.. but it worked!) and am also shifting at like 2000-2500 rpms..

Sorry for this boring post but.... Just really happy... I wish I could have had this kind of mileage 5 years ago when I got this damn car... ugh...

Good stuff Yeah when I feel like being cheapo I shift every 2500 RPM and try to use neutral as much as possible like when I slow down or when I go down hills as well as during small splurts on the freeway.

This is in Tampa, FL btw... I'm guessing its considered city since I do hit lots of stop and go right? I'm gonna TRY to granny this tank and see how I go... better yet.. just fill it back up when its half full and calculate my mpg. Could this small vacuum leak cause my mileage to go up or down?

lol...my car must not like gasoline for some reason then because i shift every 20mph(no tach). i could cruise in third gear at 70 and it be more quiet than my hatch.

i also get 34mpg city w/ the AC on during summer.

just so you can understand what i mean by REALLY long gear ratio's and no power. lol

1st gear can go up to 45mph before i hit limiter.
2nd gear rev-limiter kicks in at about 83mph and fastest i can go is 100. and thats with a strong backwind with a slight downhill angle.
i have no idea what the top of third is but, by the way it sounds i still have A LOT of rpms left.

it's one hell of a daily driver.

Pretty good since the other 1997 DXes are rated at:

Yours: 41 mpg city / 48 mpg hwy
Manual: 32 mpg city / 38 mpg hwy
Automatic: 29 mpg city / 35 mpg hwy

Anyway though, my '98 EX gets between 33-35mpg or so usually.

thats the same way i feel with my hatch. no matter what i'm going to have to get gas. and since it's my weekend car it's not any fun if i'm trying to get better gas mileage out of it.

if i'm confusing some of you i DD a 97 coupe and my weekend car is a 99hatch.

I should have the same tranny as Xtream_V and my first gear cut off is 35, second is 80 i think, and third is 110, and idk if i could even hit the cut off in 4rth, but its my daily beater too, so it sees its good share of 6k

thats not too bad man, but i think you have to have one of the hybrids to really be happy! lol. I pulled 40 mpg on a trip from georgia to florida in my old sedan. I was thrilled. I'm still pretty happy to get about 25-28 mpg in my B20v hatch!

man, after reading about people getting over 40 mi. to the gal. i need to do somethin about my gas hog.(94 hatch w/ 98 b18b1) i think its burning to rich and wasting to much fuel, if anybody knows how to adjust the fuel pressure pm me. i was thinkin about getting a diff. fuel pres. regulator. all i kno is that the guy who had the car before me was a ****** deuch bag, i have been fixing **** ever seince i bought it and its starting to pay off, if anybody has an idea what i could do to increase mpg. let me know

I think that some of these calculations must be wrong. Thats some crazy high numbers.

I'm getting 26-29 with my built B16A hatch. Thats mostly highway driving. It has very low gearing, its about 5000rpm @ 85mph.
Got a J1 tranny 4.40:1 gearing.

same here, with the bigger engine in the light *** car you would expect it to get better mpg. I think if i turned the fuel pressure down, seince the previous owner obviously messed w/ it, I would be burning all the fuel instead of wasting it, although the car will be alot slower at high rpms. it would be worth the mpg though

I can't tell you for a 5G hatch, but Eran has a B18B in a 97 hatch and he's getting better gas mileage with it than he did with his stock Y7. He gets better mileage than I do in my 98 EX coupe too.

i reset my odometer everytime i fill up. that way when i start to notice a big differance in mpg (7-10) i can check things and make sure everythings running efficiently i.e. plugs,filter,oil..just some regular maintenance, stuff like that. and I calculate it the way you should.

#of miles/#of gallons.

do you have power steering? because i dont which helps some. and also the difference is that my coupe RARELY sees the upper rpm. and i've never ever been faster than 100 in it. when i did, i kept the pedal down for a good minute and the needle never went past 100.

I wonder if I did less night time driving (to keep from turning on headlights), not blast my sound system, use less AC and take off powersteering belt if I'd get even better gas mileage. My 1st gear tops at 38, second gear at 70 and third, not sure yet.. When I first bought this car.. My car would get only 140-160 miles to a tank.. I thankfully only had it like that for 3 months untill I fixed everything up. 270 was amazing.. but 355... KJSDHFKDSK!!! I think I'm gonna fill it back up today again and see how I'm doing..
