FYI: Sound deadening material in '92 CX
There is about 4-5 pounds of sound deadening material in a '92 CX. Unless you have a lot of time it is not worth removing.

There are two pieces of sound deadening material. One on the driver footwell and one on the passenger footwell.
I thought it would weigh more but I guess I was wrong.

I took it out last weekend.. Dry ice, a rubber mallet and a screwdriver did the job. It took about two hours, but probably could be done faster since this was my first time removing sound deadening. I'm going to sand it down and paint the inside of my shell with heavy duty paint.

Also if you can get all the goo off the door linings it adds up.
Heat gun works ******* great for that. And dry ice rules for the tar.
4-5 lbs? I need to weigh my box-o-**** too.
BTW: something that takes MUCH less time and save MORE weight is removing that bullshit-heavy mat on the firewall behind the dash. That **** weighs more than the tar, and you *should* be able to rip/cut it out.
I took mine out while stripping the car for the color change paintjob

1992-1995 DX ans Si have lots more tar than the CX.
And the 1996-up has a lot more tar too.
1992 CX only has 2 pieces - one on each front floorboard.

I bought mine at the local Publix Supermarket.
It's sold to keep coolers really cool, or for making homemade carbonated drinks, like BEER.
?
Yuck..,

how much sound deadening material is in the Si's?
i know it's a lot, but weight wise, how much? 30 lbs maybe?
i thought about removing mine, but my '92 Si already has a lot road noise and i couldn't imagine it getting too much louder.

Tom,
Dry ice is real good for taking out the 'tar'. To do the front two pieces you will need about 20 to 25 pounds at the very most.
I am taking the mat between the dash and firewall out next. I know that one weighs at least 10 pounds. I will weight it and tell you guys.
I can only work on the car a little at a time. Slowly but surely...

Oh I know kenji - took me 3 bags of dry ice and about 1 hour. 30 minutes of that was waiting on the dry ice to harden that tar
Trust me, my car is STRIPPED.

It comes in a heavy duty bag, take the rubbert mallet to it and break it into 2"x2" chunks. Then leave the bag on the tar -- start at an easy edge -- and leave it there for 5 minutes, then smack it with the rubber mallet and work your screwdriver under it and it should come up in a big ~4"x4" chuck. It's better to over freeze it, since it comes out in bigger chunks and leaves less on the floor.

I did it the same way you mentioned. I just wanted to make sure I had more than enough to make sure it was nice and cold so it would be easy to take off. I bought 4 bags and had one left over. I covered the entire piece of sound deadening material at one time and let it sit for a few minutes.
It was real nice when it came up in nice big sections. Some parts were stubborn but overall it went well.
