Funky noise?

Funky noise?
Not sure what it is.
If it matters -- I drive a 2000 Civic CX hatchback with an '01 GSR swap and matching tranny. The CV axles have started to go, and since then while driving in straight lines..not all the time, but there will be an odd sound sporatically sounding out from the engine bay. It'll do it when the motor is really cold sitting at idle, but it'll warm out of it. I don't think it's the axles, it almost sounds as though a part of the transmission is exposed..Honda tranny's whirr a little bit but this sounds as though it's sitting in the cab next to me.
Any idea's as to what it is anyone? Something as simple as a transmission service or something bad?
