Default Full B20 in EG Hatch

Im dropping a full b20 out of a 00 crv in my eg hatch this week and wanted to know if anyone has done this and what steps they took to building this thing without a vtec head. I understand the b20 lacks major power in top end without the head but at the moment its almost impossible to find a good head where im from that hasnt been beat on and will cost me my *****, thanx for your help

honestly, if you want to build it, i would just save up and wait for a good deal on a head. maybe buy a good header, it really depends on your plans, if you want buy a set of pistons, unless you plan on keeping the block stock. either way just save the money and buy the head, because you will not regret it.

I believe you cant use the stock B20 tranny anyway. There is no real point in building it without a VTEC head. B20 VTEC makes good power, without a VTEC head you wont be making top end power ever.

i have that swap, coming from a sohc the b20 kicked *** for about a week, then i got used to it. i guess my jdm itr tranny keeps me out of the b20 power band. but vtec here i come SOON.

Yea i was thinkin about buying a set of cams but i guess it be just as good to save up and get the head, id like to keep this thing all motor and im considering experimenting with some itb setups, anybody know who makes a nice set of itbs and how much work itll be to tune it?

even if you put cams in it it really wont make any good high end power. The head is built to flow for low end power. And high end power without VTEC = useless. B20 VTEC will just be better all around. You will keep the lower end TQ that you get from the longer stroke and you will get high end power from the high end flowing head and VTEC.

you can go ahead and get a nice header, then once you get the head, it'll bolt right on.

i drove a b20z for about 3 months before doing a vtec head

ive read a few long threads on the obx itbs, word is they're made in the same factory as the todas. all they are are stock toyota itbs on an adapter to fit b series heads, not too hard to screw that up. theyre pretty damn cheap compared to any others, and you can find em on ebay. as far as tuning goes, hondata has a feature which makes tuning with itbs a lil bit easier, but itll still take a good bit of dyno time.

if your going to throw a vtec head on a stock b20 block i highly reccomend staying out of high rpms unless you throw a set of arp rod bolts in. b20's were not built stock to turn 8k like all the other dohc vtec motors out there.

Which is 6400 so he will only have VTEC for 1200 rpms which is pointless.

Get the ARP rod bolts done.

You will also need a GSR or B16 oil pump if you want to take it pretty high. Although I would say with ARP bolts it would probably be safe to like 7500 (with a B series VTEC oil pump aswell)
