Fuel pump control light problem

CHECK ENGINE light problem
Hi!
I have D16Y7 civic coupe 1996... today when I was driving hi revs (4th gear 6000 rpm) the yellow indicator (fuel pump) turned on... it stayed turned on until I stopped the engine...
Then, I tried starting it again and it started fine (no starting problems) and the light went off (like it has to) but after 2-3 miles of driving it went ON again...
The only difference I saw is that the idle falls to 300 rpm...
These symptoms are identical to those when you unplug the O2 sensor and try to drive... the car runs normally, ignites normally, there is no acceleration hesitation or anythin... just IDLE lowers to 300 rpm... and the FUEL PUMP LIGHT STAYS ON...
Please help, what could it be??? Is it the fuel pump with one foot in the grave or is it the dead O2 sensor...
I like to think that the O2 sensor died and it is OK when it is not hot (when I start the car) but when it gets hotter under hi revs, it gives the error LIGHT... is this possible or is it something worse...???
Please help, I'm in the corner here... it is saturday and I need the car over the weekend... pleaseplease...

Re: Fuel pump control light problem (KKVTi)
The newest update is...
When I turn the ignition key, the pump is working normaly and when it stops building the pressure, light goes off...
Then after a few seconds (without starting the engine) just before the SRS light goes off, the fuel pump light turns back on...
The car starts normally, idle is 1000 rpm cold and 300 rpm hot...
So...
Fuel pump works properly, engine starts normaly, car is NOT hesitating od low or high rpm's, all lights, radio, and all electrical components are working properly, and the car is NOT hesitating on IDLE (despite the fact it is way too low) it idles very smoothly on 300 rpm... when I press the gas pedal, it revs like nothing is wrong...
So the only thing that is wrong is that the light is always on and the idle is too low...
I reset the computer... unplugged the battery for 2 minutes and plugged it back... the problem occurs againg (without starting the engine)...
Please anyone, what could it be????
