There are other factors at play. A cold air intake will not increase your gas mileage.

If you can break it down scientifically I'm sure all of us would entertain the discussion but I believe there's one thing one of my engineering friends said to me years ago that confirms the warm air is better statement and what he said was this: "Heat is a good thing for thermal efficiency and combustion."
