Frozen radiator and hoses HELP!!!
1993 civic with a d16z6, today i used the car to go to work and discover my radiator was frozen and all radiator hoses as well as heater core hoses, I just put the car in a garage with a heater right at the hoses. the radiator was unfroze with warm water , what should I do after the ice in hoses melts?? put antifreeze and turn on the car or what??
I know it could have been avoided but i just bought the car and didn't know the ******* that had it before didn't mix the antifreeze very well.
Thanks

drain all the water, put antifreeze, the antifreeze should unfreeze all the other icy water that might be in the engine just turn it on and let the car warm after you put the antifreeze and wait a couple mins after you put the antifreeze so it can unfreeze most of the ice.

Re: Frozen radiator and hoses HELP!!!
thanks, the only problem is that my heater is a small space heater and the garage is not all that warm, is a lil warmer but is not insulated or anything, so it may not melt the ice in the hoses tonight, so how long can the car stay like that, summer is still a long way to go.

Re: Frozen radiator and hoses HELP!!!
drain your radiator and hoses as best you can, then refill with full strength antifreeze. that should help your problem.

make damn sure that it isnt frozen at the water pump!! i can only imagine the insueing carnage from trying to turn over a engine with the water pump not able to turn. missing teeth on timing belt, or timing belt breaks, valves make friends with the pistons.... umm, just thaw it our realy good borrow a good heater from someone or something

Re: Frozen radiator and hoses HELP!!!
I would go buy or rent some type of heater that will put out enough heat to heat that whole garage and leave it warm in there for a day or two then try to get that thing drained and refilled with the proper anti freeze mixture. If its to late to do that tonight I would get some drop lights in that engine bay ,put whatever heater I had close to the engine bay .I would do what i had to to try to keep that block from cracking cause that gets expensive $$

the water will refreeze if its not melted and drained. i would beg and plead with who ever owns the garage for more time.

Re: Frozen radiator and hoses HELP!!!
They sell a block heater/radiator heater at the parts store, try that. They make one that u slide inside the radiator and then plug it in and it will just warm the water till it's melted everywhere.

I would use hot water on the radiator and open the drainer cap, after the radiator drains then close it off and pour some antifreeze in there, repeat in the morning.

Re: Frozen radiator and hoses HELP!!!
ok i was running out of time and decided to take the upper and lower radiator hoses, started pouring down hot *** water down the hoses, unfroze almost all hoses and radiator, tryed taking out the thermostat housing but one of the bolts striped on me, remember is like 16 degrees over here anyway poured a lot of hot water through pipes and t-housing, put everything back, fill with anti freeze and hoses are not frozen anymore, bleed and now i'm waiting for car to cool off to put some more anti freeze.
Thanks for all your input, hopefully everything works out.
