Friend's car stalled and then would not start back up...
... hey all, a friend called me today to tell me she was stuck on the side of the road. I dont know much about honda car motors but, I went over and poked around. The car would crank, but it would not turn over. Its for the most part been ignored, its got 160K miles or so. Car is a 93 Del Sol.
She told me she was driving and it died WHILE she was moving, so she had to drift off the side the road.
My diagnosis:
1) Yes there was gas in the tank
2) Checked air filter
3) checked spark plugs, they smelt like they had fuel on them but they werent soaked so this told me the car was getting fuel
4) checked the fuses I could, everything seemed ok
5) the battery was not drained so the alternator should still be working
6) I tried the "floor the gas and crank" incase it was flooded, nothing.
Eventually i said F it and told her to get it towed.
I'm thinking it might be the timing belt that snapped, but then again I dont know if it has a belt or a chain. And, if it snapped, it could spell trouble for that motor cause honda's are interference engines? Any other thoughts? Thanks.

it could be the timming belt or the distributor just went bad, the coil or the igniter. if you can, pull the distributor out and crank the engine. have someone look at the cam to see if spinning, if it is then the belt is ok.

yeah same here, my ignition coil died out on me while i was driving on the freeway. it was msd and i also had a problem with my msd ignition box, but i would figured it'd be the same thing. my ignition just bailed out on me. so i replaced it with a stock coil and ran like a champ. good luck with ur friends car.

What is a dizzy?
Also wheres the ignition coil on that car? Is it inside the distributor cap like my 90 camry was?
