Found a nice deal on a solid '96 EX coupe
Hello, new here....wassup?
got my hands on a pretty nice '96 civic EX coupe...needs some very minor body/suspension work (no big deal), but the major thing is the d16y8 in there now has a couple of spun rod bearings from oil starvation. im trying to figure out if i would be better off putting in a b16, a b18, or another d16. this is really just going to be my daily driver, so it doesn't have to be really fast or anything, but I also need reliability and I don't know if i trust these little sohc motors any further than I can throw them. I am used to driving a toyota supra so this is kindof a step or three down....i need some decent power but i need the gas mileage too, and of course, honda reliability is always good.....on a budget, ya know?
i used to own a 1991 integra LS and it was sooooo reliable.....
but anyway, I'm gonna have about $4000 to play with. I am getting the car itself for around $450 (good deal?), and also i plan on putting around $800-1000 into restoring the body/suspension. front right fender needs to be replaced, front bumper needs to be re-aligned, needs a new balljoint or two and maybe a tie rod and wheel bearing. Also gonna get some KYB GR2's or AGX's and Eibach springs/coilovers (or if anyone has any recommendations on springs/shocks?). It already has a custom exhaust, Neuspeed strut tower bar, AEM CAI. Basically, what I'm asking, is, if I do all this work myself (which I have no problem doing), will I be able to afford an obdII b16 or obdII b18 also? any comments on all this are MUCH appreciated. -drew
