Default Found a 1993 Del Sol for sale

I was looking for a project car and I found a 93' del sol si on craigslist. It doesnt have an engine or transmission but its only $750. It looks like its in good shape. Is this a decent price for it?

I got a 94 with an engine in good shape. the body just needs some work. all for 1,000 so . . . . . .

If you can find a engine to drop in there for under a grand then you have a good deal.

lol you can drop an engine and trans complete for under 1000 depending on what you get.

in your situation i would buy it and drop in a JDM D15B... then later on i'd turbo it.

and side note:

really though aren't a del sol and a civic the same car basically. like once you have seen one you've seen them all? asides from the leaky targa top of course. And i just mean in the sense that working on the cars really is the same. someone who is knowledgable on a civic would be just as much of help.

i've never owned one and have had no issues working on one.

OP

sounds like a good deal as long as the suspension on the shell looks good. make sure all the bushing aren't rotted out. and that its not blown. if its got good brakes/tires and exhaust go for it. cheap way to go would be the d15b (vtec) and you would have a fun little daily grind. and it would be a really easy swap.

think of the del sol as a civic with a different body style and interior. under the hood is the same as the civic of the same year, and the suspension is almost exactly the same as an EG civic.

S model brakes and suspension is like the 92-95 DX
Si is like the 92-95 Civic Si
and then VTEC is like the 92-95 Civic EX-ABS + front sway bar + rear discs

and FYI, the targa seals only leak on the 93-94 models. In 1994 the seals were recalled and the 1995 model has the newer seals. if you ever buy new targa seals for a del sol you automatically get the 95+ design.

And to clarify, the only part that was recalled and the part that usually is the culprit of the leaking are the sides on the sides of the roof. the a-pillar and c-pillar seals are fine.

The guy has it advertised as an Si Vetc. But I think some one said they didnt make a vtec model that year. So it might just be an si. If thats the case and I go with a vtec motor do I need to do any re wiring or ecu upgrade?

The Si has the D16Z6, a SOHC VTEC engine. The reason for the confusion is that there is a model CALLED the "VTEC" and it has a B16A3 for 93-95 and B16A2 for 96-97, which are both DOHC VTEC engines.

this isn't the case right now but:
Sometimes people who are selling their del Sol call it the VTEC, when in fact it is the Si, because they don't know any better.

If that Del Sol has little to zero rust, its a great deal (for my state). Given a few more weeks looking on Craigs list, you could have a decent SOHC or DOHC swap anywhere from $200-1500. If you don't mind bending over and barking like a dog, get one from Hmotorsonline. I have about $600 into my LS swap parts from Craigslist; one guy sold me a B18A1, another sold me a complete B18B1 swap minus the junk shortblock. I feel dumb having put 2x more into my piston/rod Z6, and even worse since the two together cost more than the Del Sol I just got. You just have to look every day, know what's a good deal, and have the cash to jump on it.

The only wiring issues would be adding the knock sensor wire if you choose to go with it on the respective motor. Otherwise the harness for a D16Z6 and B16A3 are basicly the same.

FYI The VTEC model is more like a JDM SiR2 variant, given the fact it was the first B16 used over here. ABS was apparently an option, since the rusty pile of crap VTEC model I just bought doesn't have it. It has everything else, besides power locks (expected). That's going on with the alarm, tho.

I know what ABS looks when I (don't) see it. I can't find it anywhere on my car. I just looked it up on hondapartsdeals, and the 93-94 VTEC doesn't show any ABS parts. Also, if it was an Si model, an owner converted it to non-ABS VTEC spec a long time ago. It has all the appropriate stickers, alloys, P30 ecu, complete B16A3 with AC/PS, etc.

Interesting about the targa seals. The guy claimed this one didn't leak, so maybe they were updated. That would be nice, since the body is a real eye-sore. Seems everything you can see on the car is junk, while everything you can't is perfect.

Im just not sure what I want to do. Get a D16 build it and boost it sometime down the road or get a b16 or b18 build that and maybe boost it. What could I expect to run with a built and boosted d16 and how much would that cost (ballpark)?
