Default Fluid To Fix Tranny Grinds??

i was wondering what type of fluid additive or tranny fluid will stop tranny grinds.

my brothers 93 del sol si, d16z6 has about 80k miles on it and grinds in every gear when on WOT, but to my knowledge hes never changed the fluid....and hes had it for like 2 years.......

also id like to change mine as well

93 del sol si w/99jdm itr swap

whats the name of the fluid to use? Can we both use the same kinda fluid, he has a d16z6 tranny ive got the jdm b18c tranny "lsd type r"

Try changing out the fliud with honda MTF first. Then if that doesnt work add some GM syncromesh to that. Otherwise its off to the tranny shop if that dont work...

I have GM syncromesh, and it didn't work.

Lucas makes some trans fluid additive that worked in my friends LS tho, so i guess that's my next step before rebuilding it.

Lucas is available at autozone

If you get the synchromesh, you'll need to be sure you get the friction modified stuff.

It's not really going to "fix" anything, but it can be a good bandaid. The only way to fix it is to drop it and start replacing sycnrhos and gears if they're beat too bad.

Synchromesh is your friend. It is definately not a permanant fix but I did it last night when I was changing my clutch. Before, all gears grind on WOT shifts, now after 100 miles of easy driving to start the clutch break in, WOT 1st - 4th (on a closed course of course) and I had a mild grind shifting to 3rd. 2nd, 4th, and 5th were golden. I hear it takes a bit of time so we will see in the next few days but I already think it's well worth the 12 bucks.

exactly what i was about to say, it wont fix anything, just cover it up. Personally i would open it up and replace the syncros they arent to expensive and it will shift like brand new

so the stuff is called gm syncromesh?

where can it be purchased?

any harm in ading that lucas tranny additive as well?

i believe his tranny is only grinding because of the fluid being so old, his car has less then 80k miles on it and was driven like a baby, when i owned his car it didnt grind in any gear and he drives it like a baby, but i dont think the tranny fluid has been changed in like 3+ years......"granted thats only like 25k miles"

the synchros should be fine, but i know for fact that the fluid hasnt been changed in a really, really long time which is probably the reason why its having problems

were gonna do both our sols next weekend w/gm syncromesh and some lucas additives

"my trannys fine but figured id flush it as well"

MTF= manual transmission fluid

I got my synchromesh from the local chevy dealer. Make sure you get the rectangular container and not the cylinder shaped one. The cylinder shaped ones aren't the friction modified formula.

MTF stands for manual trans fluid. Honda MTF is what many would recommend, you get it at the honda dealership, or a honda specialist shop. I'm going to use 2qt of HMTF and .5 of Lucas, we'll see what happens.

just to clarify i did not use the friction modified GM syncromesh, only the normal kind.
