First Post: odd noise when engine is cold
hey guys, i have a 96 civic ex, 5spd. Bought the car cheap with a rod thrown through the block, piston seized at the bottom of its stroke on #1cyl. I got a shortblock from a buddy (about 75k on it, 115k on car) and swapped that in. Did this back in march, and have had no problems in over 1500 mi.
Ive been running those bosch plugs with the 4 ground prongs, seemed fine, just took a bit of cranking to start. after reading that it is best just to use ngk plugs i got a set (platnums i believe) and put them in, starts up in half the time now, also seems to idle/run smoother.
Heres the problem, after running for a few days, i noticed a odd noise at 4k rpms, and only 4k rpms. it is almost like a grinding sound coming from within the engine, it is loudest when cold, and gets quieter as it warms up, completely going away after the temp needle is past the bottom line on the gague.
I usually baby it until it is fully warmed up, so i didnt notice if the noise was presesnt directly after i installed the ngk's. i rechecked the gap on the plugs and they are all fine. no knocking, loss of power or poor performance when the sound is happening.
anyone have any ideas? i cant see it being a bad rod bearing or something along those lines, cause it only happens at 4k and when cold. it could have nothing to do with the plugs, it was just the last thing i did to the car. any imput would be greatly appreciated
