FINALLY...got my Honda
I've always wanted one but I finally got around to getting one, w/my luck of course I'd get the oddball of the bunch:
99' Civic HX EJ7 *fixed*
d16y5
Bone stock(a feat in its own)
First order of business is to get this thing off of 4x4 status on some springs, coil-overs or something. The headlights also need to go, frosted yellow is not where its at.
Any other tips on heading into modding this one, this damn tranny is definitely FTL. If Im not mistaken the y8 tranny is the best tranny to throw in. I dont really know what year to look for this tranny exactly(I know its an Si tranny though), Im assuming the Si from the 92-95 Civics.
Overall goal is to just have fun w/it and throw a little boost at it just to have fun, no drag strip warrior but I dont wanna be able to hang when Im out wit my guys haha....

Re: FINALLY...got my Honda
hx= EJ7
Yeah the y8 tranny is the best, it came in 96-00 Civic ex's.
Some tips are don't get projectors or ebay coilovers or anything from ebay.
Some nice lights in my opinion are fresh stock ones or some black housing OEM style ones.

Congrats on the purchase. For the headlights you can DIY and fix them up by sanding them down and polishing (there is a guide somehwere..)

Here is a good one

If I replaced em I was thinking about some nice stockers or the blacked out ones also. Wanna keep it simple, slammed and clean. Whats a good set-up of full-coil overs that are only a few hundred possibly(I know there some somewhere)? I didn't really wanna spend $1200 right now, wanna get this tranny gone first ya know.
*edit: Lemme rephrase, just a good "budget" coil-over set-up, I know there's probably like a million answers for that but one in particular that sticks out type set-up...*

If you need to do your tranny first wait on the coilovers...just do it all the way the first time. After full coilovers you'll never go back to a sleeve/shock setup. I know 1200 or so sounds like a lot, but its oh so worth it. I LOVE my Apexi full coils.

Re: FINALLY...got my Honda
Yea full coil-overs are definitely where its at, I just ordered a set for the other car, they were KWs, there great but there still stiff as ever. Probably go w/eibach or something now. I'm sure the quality for the honda is a lot better though so Im gonna go ahead and look into a few of the full coil-over set-ups...thanks for the input on the Apexi's.

Check on your local classifieds here http://www.hondamarketplace.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65
Im sure you can find a nice EX tranny and later find some full coilovers cheap from someone. I got my full tein coilovers for 300 and theyre awesome.

For the headlights, there are DIYs on how to make them look brand new. SIRIUS's DIY on ClubCivic is the best one IMO.
Is it manual or automatic?
The D16Y8 came in the '96-'00 Civic EX coupes and sedans. The '92-'95 Civic EX and Si came with the D16Z6, which is very similar and has a similar transmission. Either would fit on an HX with a manual transmission.
You can find good parts on eBay, but you need to know exactly what you're looking for. There are a lot of parts on there being sold as things they are not.

And here is the fuel and emissions information for '96-'00 USDM Civics. This is from the service manual.
The last time I filled up I filled up with about ten gallons. This doesn't mean I have a ten gallon tank though.
Few people run it totally dry, push the car to the gas station and then fill it up.
Perhaps you'd been filling up early because you had a broken gas gauge?
EDIT: Further research found these gas logs for some 6th gen Civic HXes.
1997 HX - puts in 7.07 to 10.65 gallons
1998 HX - puts in 3.77 to 10.679 gallons
1997 HX - puts in 9.56 to 10.48 gallons
1998 HX - puts in 5.389 to 10.99 gallons

Re: FINALLY...got my Honda
NOFX mucho chingon!
maybe I did have a broken gas gauge,
I never did completely run out of gas so for all I knew I still had half a tank every time I filled up. at least it was a good excuse not to give people rides. (no gas) matter fact ima break my current gas gauge
