fastest civic for 3k
what would be the fastest, and most reliable car i could make for under $3,000?
i want to spend $5,000. $2,000 of cosmetic/jdm/etc/repair parts and $3,000 on car/engine.. whatever would make me run the 1/4 at a good speed.
btw, what color paint is this-

Re: fastest civic for 3k (95si)
your gonna be extremely hard pressed to find a civic and put an engine in it for 3000. My friend was very luck to find a 94 DX coupe for 1500 with a blown engine and he bought a DOHC non-vtec 1.6 litre engine for something like 350 and then had his neighbor do the swap. hes only spent 4500 on his car but it still looks kinda rough, its green for one thing and he just has silver steelies on it. your best bet would be to try to find a civic (im assuming your talking about an EG) thats in really could shape then jsut put money into it as it comes.

If i was in your shoes i would get an ef hatch(500-600),a sohc vtec engine(500 or so),and a rev hard turbo kit(not sure how much). It will be a quick lil car then you can do looks in the end.Whats wrong with 88-91 civics?

You'll be hard pressed to find what your looking for with the money you have to spend, unless you have hookups. You may just have to go with an EF, and not all 88's are "POS'" I know quite a few ppl with nice looking, fast EF hatches.

EF hatch - $500-$750
1st gen B16A - $1250 shipped (hondamotorsonline.com)
DIY install - $150 (random tools and other misc. ****)
decent homemade DIY turbo kit - $750-$1500 (depending on quality of parts you get)
There you go. low 14 - high 13 second beater. Save a few months, get a pint job. Good as new.

Re: fastest civic for 3k (ivanED9)
get an EF 4 door- those cars are the dopest ever, I want to pick one up and throw my Z6 in there. Why not buy one that's already done for 5000? If you're going to restrict yourself that low, and don't want older than a 92, then you're in the wrong hobby. Pick up a CRX- super light and with a b16 and slight mods, you'll be banging.

Re: fastest civic for 3k (95si)
That would be faster, but I doubt you will be paying 150 for labor, even if you knew what you were doing. I think they are just now making mounts for the efs, and they are around 500-650 dollars by themselves. The h22 is the toughest swap out there, especially in an ef.

Re: fastest civic for 3k (AllMotorHB)
My vote goes for the turbo ef hatch. Just keep in mind, the older the engine, the more likely you are to have problems. Sure you might stay under the 3000 budget, but you might be paying more in the long run.
Why not save a little longer?

Here is the easiest and quickest way IMO:
1988 EF hatch or CR-X.
D16A6 stock 1988-1991 Si motor. SOHC 1.6L non-VTEC.
Turbo kit or piece together a good turbo set-up.
Swaps cost too much if you're really money conscious. The D16A6 motors are a dime a dozen ans they are bad-*** motors overall despite what people might say. 8psi of TUNED boost on one of those could touch more whp than any stock B16A ever thought about, and certainly more than any LS motor dreamed of as well.
- This all coming from a die-hard swap guy, but money is money and quickness is quickness regardless if you're DOHC or SOHC.
Lastly:
An H22A swap in an EF is damn near impossible. I've got a pal doing one and it's been 2 years now since he started. Too much bullshit - you'll NEVER get it running right with only $5,000.00 total for car, motor, labor, mounts, etc.
Good luck!

Re: fastest civic for 3k (95si)
you don't need a swap in a crx to hit 13's. Just get a crx or ef hatch for cheap (500-1000, preferably hf or si for crx or si for hatch). get a nice d16a6 and build the head!!! If you build the head with a nice street/strip cam and nice valves retainers and the such, you will hit high 13's unless you can't drive!!! you can get a built head for 1500 or less if used!!! so say you get the car for 500 and then the a6 motor and built head for 2000 or less, you still have about 500 or more for a body kit, something jdm, or whatever you want! I would put it towards bolt ons tho!
