the gauge doesnt work off the thermoswitch. are you over heating? my motor runs really cool so my fan doesnt turn on unless i'm idling for a long time. try unhook the thermoswitch plug and bridging the contacts with you motor running. the fan should turn on

when my fan didnt come on. I changed teh coolant temp sensor.. didnt work. then I replaced the fan relay.. works now. a relay is like $25 and autozone or pepboys. it goes in that box next to the battery.

Re: fan wont turn on... (Boostage)
That seems pretty high for a relay does radioshack have them? it would be a lot cheaper and there meant for auto use anyway. just dont have that nifty plastic piece on the top to mount it somewhere, If its the same basic relay im thinking about otherwise the junkyard is your friend when it comes to parts like that. Everytime i go i load up on fuses, Bulbs, ext just fill my pocket with them while i walk out. Priceless

well if worse comes to worse rewire you fan. Either run it to a toggle switch and flip it on when your running or you can wire it to and acc item that will turn on and off with the car. At least you wont have to worry about overheating, and it will buy you some time to trouble shoot the problem.

I think that was only 01+ or something. My 03 Hybrid left the fan on after the car was off for a few minutes.

No the fan should still stay on even after the ignition is turned off, if the car is still to warm. It's a safety feature so your motor doesn't overheat!

I got a better idea, why dont you kiss my a$$ you idiot. Just because youve been a member longer then me dosent mean you know more then me.
Here is the Diagram. You see that thing in there called an Ignition switch, Come on say it with me here, Ig-nit-ion switch. Aka the thing where you put the key in when you start the car. With me so far or should i re-draw the pic for you with some jumbo crayons so you understand me. See its clearly in the circuit that controlls the Cooling Fan! So dont tell me i dont know what im talking about.
Btw for the guy who originally made this thread this should help you track down your problem in no time. sorry it took me so long to post it. Ive been dealing with ppl who think they know everything.

not to get in on a fight, but just to let you guys know my fan doesn't turn on when the key is out and in my pockets. It is because of the year make and model of my car.
We don't know what type of car his is, and different years are well DIFFERENT.
