Default Fair price to change ignition?

My friends EG needs the ignition replaced. She took it to a mechanic and was quoted $400. Does that sound fair? I've never personally changed an ignition so I don't know the amount of work involved. Thanks!

If he's replacing all the key cylinders (door key holes, trunk cylinder, and trunk latch lock) with labor 400 still sounds a bit high. If he's just replacing the ignition cylinder though 400 is a rip off.

Maybe around 70-150 would be more fair.

Hmm.. I went to http://www.hondapartscheap.com and checked the prices for OEM parts:

1 06721-SH3-415 TUMBLER KIT, KEY CYLINDER 1 1995 CIVIC 338.13 243.45
2 06721-SR3-305 CYLINDER KIT, R. DR 1 1995 CIVIC 26.20 18.86
3 06725-SR3-305 CYLINDER KIT, L. DR 1 1995 CIVIC 26.20 18.86
4 06748-SM4-305 CYLINDER, TRUNK 1 1995 CIVIC 6.41 4.62

First price is msrp, second price is what they are actually selling it for.

If they are using OEM parts, and like syndacate said, replacing all the cylinders (so you don't have two different keys), they $400 doesn't seem to be out of the question considering that it's about $285 just for OEM parts.

Ya, it really depends on if it's just the ignition cylinder - or all of them

I mean **** - outside the ignition cylinder there's still 5 more (trunk, both doors, trunk latch lock, and seat-back opener).
