Failed Smog No Communication to the ECM
Im new to these boards and I was hoping you guys could help me out on a little problem I have.
I have a 99 Si except it has a d16y7 (the b16 was stolen). I purchased then engine from a user of these boards and now I'm having issues.
Everything passed smog except there was no communication to the ECM.
I was hoping someone may have experience with this issue and could help me get it fixed.
Thanks in advance

Re: Failed Smog No Communication to the ECM (jadxi420)
I bet the last time you did anything, you just disconnected the battery.
Go in and pull the backup fuse and reset it agian. The backup fuse is underhood (it says it's for the radio and something else). Something about just pulling the battery cable messes it up. I had the same problem last inspection.

Re: Failed Smog No Communication to the ECM (Ricey McRicerton)
I posted the same problem earlier this week. Went for smog, passed emissions but failed the function test. I had reset the ECU by disconecting the battery the day before. From what I've been told Ricey is correct. When you reset the ECU it loses memory of the communication between various sensors. Thecar has to complete a series of "drive cycles" in order for it to build up the memory. From what I understand, it's about 50-100 miles of varied driving (freeway, stop and go, cold startup etc.)
I havent taken mine back yet, but I think it is fine because I got the o2 CEL that I was trying to clear in the first place.

Re: Failed Smog No Communication to the ECM (undertheradar)
in the end i gave up and replaced a fuse for the interior lights and out of desperation gave it one last read with the obd2 tester. Worked!! who would have known. ha ha. went on to pass smog.
