experiences with reman. axles from autozone/kragen
just wondering about your experiences with the lifetime warranty reman. axles they sell at places like autozone and kragen. ive heard a lot of stories of them going bad and its making me think twice about buying a replacement one for my driver side. you guys think i would have better luck with an axle from a junkyard or one from one of the stores above? is there anyway to tell if the axles are good before you buy them? like rotate/twist them?

I got remanufactued axels from, I think it was Shucks, and they lasted 8-10k before making serious loud noises...
...I'm still driving on them 5k later with knocking noises now. I can't afford to replace them.

my outer CV boot on my driver side axle ripped about a week and a half ago, can i just use a boot kit? or do you think dirt and rocks have gotten inside already and i should just replace the entire axle?
when replacing the boot with a kit, do you simply just take off the boot, put more grease in it, and slap a new boot on with new bands? or do you have to take apart all the bearings and components and clean everything up before repacking with grease?
the autozone axles arent looking very promising right now. maybe junkyard....

Generally its just better to replace the whole halfshaft. The Quick Boots are crap, they don't stay on. And as far as the original style boot, well, by the time you go through all the work to replace the boot properly, you may as well go ahead a replace the whole axle.

we use AZ axles in most of our swaps (except H22 civics) and we have never had any problems over the years

I have a driverside reman's and it blows. I got the lifetime warranty and the first one lasted about 3 weeks before going out. I traded it for the second one and it lasted about a month. I ended up getting it rebiult by a shop who does axles and they said the workmanship (by whoever rebiult it) was terrible.

they're absolutly horrible, lifetime warranty means **** when slave labor rebuilds them and they last 1wk - 3months

Re: (JDMb18civic)
a buddy of mine went through 5-8 axles in less than 1yr. abusive driver but still.just get honda remanufactured axles and i think they even come with a lifetime or limited warranty. unless you insist on changing out axles every other weekend. good luck
