exhaust noise/rpm question?
my 98 dx has full headers then resonator and strait back to your standard glasspack style muffler all 2.5in pipe, you run of the mill loud obnoxious honda.
my question is, in most gears the noice is loud but the tone is fine. i kinda like it personaly.
but in 4th or 5th rarily 3rd if i get down to like 2k rpm the exhaust tone becomes an extremely loud bellowing bass tone that hurts my ears. but once i get it to around 2300 or so it goes away.
is this normal? does yours do that? i usualy cruise around 2300-2500 so i dont hear the noise but being able to cruise at 2k would probably give me better gas milage.

Re: exhaust noise/rpm question?
harmonic resonance is the most technical term I can come up with.
I don't have exact RPM speeds, but when I ran header, 2.25 mandel pipe with resonator and N1 (SUPER LOUD) style muffler, it did the same thing.
It still does it with my magnaflow muffler too at around the same RPM range. Its just at that frequency where the exhaust pulses are in sync with each other and create audible constructive interference. That is why you get that resonating sound.
