Default EX coupe weight loss ideas.. sunroof/sideskirts

So yeah.. come to find out my ex is quite a bit heavier than the dx/lx..

I'm thinking about unbolting my sunroof stuff and replacing it with some sheet metal or some other material.. And removing my sideskirts + mudflaps.

So my question is.. anyone here removed the sunroof on an ex? was it worth the weight loss?

And mudflaps/sideskirts.. is there some sort of disadvantage to removing these? I just see them as extra weight and just for looks..

thanks

sounds like too much work just to loose a few pounds. it won't make that much of a difference. what are your goals for wanting to accomplish this?

I agree.

If you're drag racing the thing pull EVERYTHING except the driver's seat out of it.

If you're using it to go to school/work every day, keep EVERYTHING in it .

@ 107 lb/ft tq. in an EX chassis you shouldn't be crying if it's your commuter car.

If you're that paranoid about it, buy a '92-'95 CX Hatch and drop your Y8 in it.

Make your car faster, not lighter.

Most of the weight is in the a/c and the ps, not the sunroof or other parts.

Remove the rear seats, ac, and ps, and then come back to us.

With the money/effort involved in removing/modding anything else it's more worthwhile just to add horsepower.

All in all, 99% of the time it makes more sense to add power instead of removing weight on our cars. Even with an almighty Carbon fiber hood you're only saving 6-7lbs.

Gutted DD's FTL.

Unless your trapping 150+ you don't need to worry so much about losing weight bro.

And is there a chance that you could use a diet? I know some of our honda boys are 250+ lbs.

In that case the first place I'd look for weight reduction is on my ***.

250+ lbs. wtf? if that's the case H-T needs a diet.

It's a daily driver.
I'm not putting any performance parts in it because i plan on either dropping in an engine in a year or two, or selling it. ( probably selling because b/k swaps keep sounding less appealing and there seems to be no hope for a r18 swap.. )

I'm okay with it's horsepower but would like to free up a little torque for uphills and such.
And i'm personally on a diet.. lol
240lbs ftl :\

ps/ac will stay. I like them. Back seat might go. don't want to take anything out that won't be a pain in the *** to get back in though. cuz again.. prolly gonna sell. i guess the sunroof would probably fall into that pain in the *** territory though..

so again..
sunroof removal yields a good amount of weight or what?
sideskirts.. useful at all?

it's not feasible to do drastic weight reductions on a stock motor/stock car.

Even if you could take off 400lbs the gain won't be that drastic.

I bet you'll have a hard time removing 150lbs.

DAILY DRIVER, WHAT!!!!! dude, you're just bored. you have tuner fever. this occurs when you have no money, but want to modify something on your car.

leave you damn car alone. you plan on selling it anyways. you like the ps and ac, so you don't want to get rid of it. and if you feel that your 1.6L VTEC motor can't get you up the giant mountains that you are driving, then get a stronger car/motor, so you can make it up there. don't ruin a perfectly (i'm speculating here) civic, or any other car for that matter.

oh, and definately lose the weight chubby!

this is retarded
removing the seats will net you NOTHING
everything you're speaking of doing will net you NOTHING

the only smart thing you mentioned is removing the sunroof, removing weight from your roof is a good idea.

also getting lighter rims/tires, these are things you will FEEL the difference when changed.

The sideskirts are maybe two pounds a piece tops. I think the rear seats weight five pounds maybe (lower) and a bit more for the top. You won't be doig yourself any favors.

As for the EX coupe being "quite a bit heavier than the DX/LX"... What?

The 1999 EX coupe weighs 2513 pounds. The 1999 LX sedan weighs 2412 pounds, the 1999 DX hatch is 2388 pounds, the 1999 DXX coupe is 2359 pounds and the 1999 DX sedan is 2339 pounds.

1999 LX sedan = 101 pounds less than the 1999 EX coupe
1999 DX hatch = 125 pounds less than the 1999 EX coupe
1999 DX coupe = 154 pounds less than the 1999 EX coupe
1999 DX sedan = 174 pounds less than the 1999 EX coupe

Tuner fever haha...
yes philosofy1 you hit the nail on the head.
I'm determined to not put any money into this car cuz i'd rather get an 06+ civic or rsx..
it's gonna be a year though, so.. yeah.

Weight reduction does have an effect. not drastic, but noticeable.
Traded in the 22+ lb 17's that came with my car for some gsr 'fat fives' and that helped a lot too. ( i can take a pretty steep hill on the 101 out here about 2-3mph faster now.

whatevs.
original questions still unanswered :/
