Everyone is always asking B18C1 VS's B18C5 But what about..............
B18C1 VS's B16B????????
The B16B has 118 lb/ft of torque and 185 Horsepower
The B18C1 has 128 lb/ft of torque and 170 Horsepower
Now which one of these 2 engines do you think is a better deal? Coincidentally they are about the same price 3700 for B16B and 3500 for B18C1.
Which one would you go with and why? Please explain why you choose which ever one you do choose.

Well the pricing on those motors on that same Osaka JDM site has the B18C1 at only $2,700.00 and not $3,500.00.
I'd still choose a B18C1 over the torqueless wonder B16B. The JDM B18C (non-R) will murder that B16B in the low and midrange and the top end on that 180hp B18C won't be far behind the top end on that rev-the-****-out-of-me B16B.
Want exclusivity and that "ooh that's rare y0!" factor?
Get the B16B.
Want to spend $1,000.00 less and be a good bit quicker?
Get the B18C.

Hmmm, interesting question.
I think my anwser will go contrary to popular opinion, but I would go with the B16B. 1- I like high revving engines . 2- You get a CTR tranny (shorter gears, LSD) with the B16B. 3- If at any point you decided to change blocks (LS or B20 VTEC for example) you already have a good flowing head to swap + the CTR pistons, cams, etc could be sold to help offset the cost of the swap.
I would do the B16B swap as part of a means to an end, not an end itself though. If all I wanted to do was swap & forget it, perhaps the C1 would be a better choice.
Oh yeah, plus you get a purrty red valve cover with the B16B

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The reason I put the price I did on the GSR swap is because. Not many people are gonna pay the extra money to have the JDM B18C shipped when they can get a US spec one for about the same price. And you only get 10 Horsepower and 1 lb/ft of torque from the JDM spec B18C If you get it off of that site it will be cheaper but like everyone says. We don't know if the prices are legit or not. So I was comparing there prices on the B16B on that website to what we always get the B18C1 for.

You cannot compare "best case" B16B pricing to "normal rate" B18C1 pricing though.
Try comparing "normal rate" B16B price of $4,300.00 to the "normal rate" B18C price of $3,300.00 then.

Ok I have been talking to Mark from OsakeJDMengines and he said that all of the swaps they have. Have less then 50,000 KmH on them.
Here are the prices he quoted me
B16B 4002.59
B18C 3002.59
B18C R 4502.59
All those prices are shipped to Dallas Tx

Re: Everyone is always asking B18C1 VS's B18C5 But what about.............. (Siturbohybrid)
CTR motor is alright but the ITR looks to be the better motor out of the box in this case.
I would suggest just building a C1 bare block with nice power goodies instead of buying the motors in question more power for a little more money.
Displacement does own all else being equal.....its a given.
2.0L B18C5
1.8L B18C5
hmm I think we all know which motor would make more power

Re: Everyone is always asking B18C1 VS's B18C5 But what about.............. (Siturbohybrid)
When I bought my motor from Nippon Motors the guy there asked me if I wanted a CTR motor (They were the same price basically). I asked him what he thought and said there is no replacement for displacement. We laughed but he's right. I would spend the extra 500 bux and get the ITR swap.
Sticking with the inital ? though. I'd go with the GSR motor.

There ain't NO replacment for Displacement ! CTR'S TRANNY FINAL DRIVE IS ONE THING TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE!
The JDM '98 spec ITR gets the even-better 4.78 FD too.
