ES OVAL universal mufflers *pic*
Any thoughts on the ES oval universal mufflers? A local muffler shop just screwed up my OEM Si exhaust, and now there's an annoying leak. I've already spent a few hours under the car and just can't seem to find the source of the leak, but that's another story. Anyways, I need to find a replacement, and the ES seems reasonably priced. I'm planning to go with custom mandrel bent piping if I end up getting the ES oval muffler. How would you describe the sound, deep & throaty or loud & raspy? Anyone have pics of this muffler mounted on the car from the rear straight on and rear 3/4 angle?

ES ovals look good. I got a cheap "turbo" from Autozone.(oval muffler) on my car and it sounds good. I am guessing the ES would sound the same. I am about to upgrade to a Oriley RAPTOR muffler. (oval style too, just a lil bigger then the 'turbo')

I do have to agree with Flat blk HB on this one....the dynomax muff *TURBO* one from autozone/autoparts get the job done...quiet/cheap/oval shape just like the es oval/

my brother just got one and it's not that loud at all. I wonder what the dynomax ultraflow would sound like, because i was debating on getting this or the es oval because the ultraflo had 1000 cfm and i didn't know what the es cfm was. I want my brother to have a performance exhaust, but my friend has the es and we liked it.
My brother is happy with the es oval. he has a 2001 lx and did the 2.25 custom catbackcost $193 total with muffler( not bad considering dc sport ~$600...yea yea..mandrel bent, i did c them do the crush bend, and the pipe was pinch...now i understand why mandrel is better).
It has a deep sound tone...it doesn't get rasphy at all....in the midrange, you can feel the car vibrate from the exhaust(feels like bass). we got it from inlinefour for 113 bux shipped. a dynomax ultraflo will run about the same price, but i wish I could have listen to both mufflers before making the decision.

what this this muff sound like? ive had the following on my car, greddy sp, 5 zigen fireball and lastly the thermal r&d classic. i like my thermal sound wise but ive never liked the shape of it, doesnt look right imo.
can someoene describe the sound and possibly compare the sound to other setups (ive pretty heard 90% of mufflers out there, just not this one)

Re: ES OVAL universal mufflers *pic* (I can't believe this ****)

i got an eval exhuast on a 00 si. All I have to say is once you start adding some power adder. Like cams, the es oval will be freaking loud in vtec. But normal driving its good !! well worth the 100 bux

the sound: imagine a greddy evo how its bassey, but really low key ..when you step on the gas @ idle its more of a growl rumble, but low ..when your WOT, its the same thing, and cruising its just very pleasant. u cant hear it at idle.
looks great brewer!

I wouldn't mind having a flat-black one.
The stainless finish looks good and all, but if I was going to get a muffler for sleeper purposes I'd go all the way and flat-black that *****.
Looks stocky-stock though - I like them.
BTW:
There are a lot of threads that discuss the ES ovals, and some of them even have sound clips in them last time if I remeber correctly.
Try the search under "archived" threads and see if you find what you're looking for.

Yeah I spent a few hours last night going thru the entire ES Oval archive. I'm a believer now, I'm definitely getting this thing. It fits what I'm looking for.....
stock looking
quiet sounding w/ resonator
stainless steel construction
straight-thru design
cheap
