it could be running rich but it has to be really messed up. you got any check engine lights, it's not supposed to burn or have anything black coming out of exhaust. What ecu are you using. Also get it comperssion tested. you should let some one drive it and see how much smoke comes out when vtec kicks in.

Re: (hondaracing1)
yes but i thought we established that these hondas "use" more oil when on vtec.
and isn't black deposits fuel! Surely if you zorst is pointing far enough away from the car then you wouldnt end up with cr*p on you bumper?

Sounds like you're running rich and/or burning some oil.
You need to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a V-AFC and hit a dyno with a wideband o2 sensor.

Vtec = more lift and duration.Period
you shouldn't be burning oil vtec or not. Period
Look inside your exhaust pipe, it's all back rite it's called carbon.
Some is going to end up on your bumber regardless.
Most likely if your getting black specs on your bumper it's either
A: carbon
B: unburned fuel (rich condition)
I'm thinking it's probably a mix of both, since the engine is newly installed in your car it's obviously coming from there
I get black specs on my white bumper but I know it's due to my afr (rich)

Re: (b16ahybrid)
Wouldn't you run rich on a stock engine if you constantly used high octane gas? Like 93? Dumb question, I know, but just a thought.

Re: (92RED Hatch)
I have a b16, and my friends say whenever I get on the throtle real hard and get into VTEC a little puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust, but that's just from running rich. My engine burns a little oil as well, but it has 103,000 miles on it. I agree that it's most likely just a bad seal. You have to be carful about loosing a lot of oil, it's very hard on your oil pump. If it gets to the point to when you stop at a traffic light and your oil pressure drops and your car stalls, that means your oil pump is gone because you've been working it too hard. This happend to my friend with a DSM (he had 2 bad seals), and I told him to stop driving it and replace his oil pump. But he didn't listen and the next day while driving it he threw two rods, tore up his cylinders, and meesed up a couple of pistons. Oh well, I tried to tell him.
