Engines Revs Up and Down when first turned on?
Hi guys I keep searching but the only info i've found on engine rev'in is how to increase the rpm's and swap the engine lol. When i first turn my car on the engine revs up and down for like 2 to 4 mins. It really pisses me off and i can't figure out what it is? Have any of you had this problem before .... if so how was it resolved?
oh and secondly i just installed a pair of denji projectors for my 93 coup, i just wanted to know how far away i should be from the wall when i align the height of the beams? when i sit in the seat the top of the beam should be eye level against the wall right?
thx guys

i am not too familiar with lights and bulbs etc... but my projectors came with h3 bulbs and a wiring harness. the harness is in; will it support H4 bulbs? cause my projector lamp is a GEN I and doesn't have the blue lens, so i wanna buy some h4 buls with a blue tint...

i think that is normal. every car i've driven in does that when they're first started up after sitting for a long time.

when you said it revs up and down...is it doing it every other seconds or...? might be idle problem.

eh.. mine does that, but only maybe for about 10 seconds. Your saying its minutes correct? Are you throwing any CEL's? Usually when the weather changes is when i have my problems with my MAP sensor and causes crazy idle. Just pull off the MAP sensor.. then wiggle it back in. That usually makes my problems go away for a while. If it is not that, then maybe IACV? Just throwing up some options. Good luck.

My car does that for a couple of weeks when it first starts getting cold out. Then it goes away.
It's weird. It's like it's an adaptation period.

No your engine revving up and down isn't normal.
</TD></TR></TABLE>
^^^^ thats True ^^^^
My friend had his car do that, what you need to do is adjust the little screw clock wise by the intake manifold and it give the car more gas wile its idaling, the reasone its going up and down is because the car doen't have enuff gas and it pumps more in at a certin rev point so your car will not die on you.

The screw you are talking about is the idle adjusting screw and it doesnt control the amount of gas going to the engine, it controls the amount of air being taken in for idle. But it can cause it to idle like that if it is adjusted all the way out, so I guess you can check that too but if your idle is fine when it is warm then its probably not the problem.

sorry to high jack this thread, but why would my car idle high, like 1200 all the time, then sometimes, it will just drop to 700 and the fuel cut off is at 3500? Safe mode?

Pull straight up to a vertically level wall. Make an X with tape of your choice directly in front of the headlight bulb. Go straight back 20 feet. Align the headlights so the brightest part of the beam is 1/4" down and right of the center of the X. Use an 8mm socket to adjust the headlights. It's easier than the adjusting screw.

I had the same problem and it was the tps . After it was "calibrated" the problem went away. But my neighbor did to and it was his IACV, so it could be any of the two.
