Default Engine Swaps headaches

How reliable are your swaps? I'm considering selling the SiR and picking up an EK, maybe drop something in later. Not sure what yet. But I hate having the hassle of car problems. I just want to drive it and forget about it. I dont want any headaches. IE if I get someone good to install it am I gonna run into any ghey problems? I know every car is different, but for most of yall is your swap working ok? how long you been running it???

Just want some helpful tips,

Thanks! H\T!

My swap is running great, 99 USDM B16A2 into 93 del Sol. I did the swap myself (with a buddy). No problems for 18 months, >20000 miles.

<-- hybrid 94 CX here.

Honda problems is what HT is for. I have a B18C1 swap and no problems here. Just good ol' Honda OEM reliability.

If they are done properly the first time they are as reliable as the cars they are made from. It's all Honda OEM after all and both the Civic and the Integra have reputations for being virtually bullet proof.

Just get your wiring right the first time. The physical 'swap' action is the easy part.
of course that's contingent upon the original condition of the donor motor.

The only problem I've run into is not being fast enough

A better idea would be to just get the GSR in the first place, IMO. Saves a lot of hassles.

no reason why it shouldn't pas smog. and if you do get a LS/RS and drop a B18C1 in it, i wouldn't worry about smog.

My b18c1 is very reliable. I used an OB1 in my 94 CX and it has not given me any issues at all. The vehicle has also been CARB'd here in California. Ultimately, it depends on the quality of the engine/transmission that you buy that will dictate whether or not you will have problems in the future.

insurance would cost more.

About the insurance.....I priced del Sols (Si vs VTEC.....SOHC VTEC vs DOHC VTEC) and the Si was $1 per 6 months cheaper than the VTEC. I don't know if its different for your case, but I was surprised.

If you tell your insurance company about the swap, they'll likely charge you as a GSR, or if you don't tell them and your car gets jacked, you're out $3500 or so......

This is incorrect. If you provide the smog referee with legitimate documention about the purchase of the swap (VIN numbers, price, etc) they can run the information to verify if the engine has been stolen. The main requirements for reffing your car is as follows:

1. The engine has to be the same year or newer
2. All smog systems must be in use (catalytic convertor, vacuum lines, canister, etc)
3. Be professional with the referee and he/she will treat you the same.

you inform them where u purchased it and show them the Reciept which I pray you would have the VIN# written on the reciept and then they bust the SHOP for selling stolen parts.. you are a consumer.. they are a buisness they have a responsibility to sell only legitimate Parts

that's why u go to the REF .. they will give u a sticker that verifies the engine as a B18C1 in the LS vechile.. as long as u can pass there thru Visual inspection and Smog test
